LOCATION: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

JOB TITLE: Senior IT Technician

SALARY & BENEFITS: £20,661 pro rata (Depending on experience and qualifications) 

WORKING HOURS: Monday – Friday based on 37 hours per week on a 52 week contract (Flexible)

THE COMPANY: Our client is a multi-trust academy trust who help schools and colleges convert to ‘Academy status’, sponsor other academies, and help spread good education practice. They are committed to improving the quality of education and life in the county of Cambridgeshire. This position is based out of one of their Academies in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

THE ROLE: Your role as a Senior IT Technician will be to work in the IT Support team to assist the staff and students across the Trust and throughout the wider schools supported by the Trust providing a professional, customer focused service and support. 

This role will be based within our client’s Academies supporting our local users, however more often you will be supporting our customers within their schools surrounding our Academies. You will travel to our customer school sites to resolve issues within their networks on an agreed schedule. 

You will make a major contribution to the successful management of the IT systems managed by the Trust’s IT team, ensuring the smooth running of the systems and strive to assist all users to operate at optimum efficiency in the delivery of ICT. This is an investigative and customer facing role, which requires good communication skills, problem solving techniques and a pro-active attitude to work.


Key Responsibilities of Senior IT Technician to include:-

Help to ensure the smooth running of all computer equipment within our schools. 
Ensure that the IT systems on our customer sites are fully functioning and documented.
Ensure that faults and problems are quickly rectified using the IT Helpdesk, undertaking fault finding, repairing equipment where possible and organise external repairs where necessary.
Ensure that the department meets with SLAs with particular attention to keeping resolution times low with a realistic timescale communicated to the user. 
Visit customer sites on weekly schedule and work through the IT support jobs logged within our helpdesk that require on-site attention. 
Assist with the installation and configuration of all new computer hardware to ensure that it operates to maximum potential. 
Support project roll-out across the Trust and customers supported by the Trust. 
Provide training and support to staff as required in all applications & systems used by staff and students across the Trust to a basic minimum level. This will include formal and informal training sessions as directed by the line manager. 
Be aware of and advise the line manager on all Health and Safety matters relating to ICT and have knowledge of and be able to implement safe working practices. 
Keep up to date with new technology, advising and recommending where appropriate. 
Any other duties commensurate with the post, as agreed with the Trust’s IT Director.

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will have a customer service focus, be a team player with the ability to also work on your own, often under pressure. The successful Senior IT Technician will have an excellent understanding of IT. You will need good organisation and prioritisation skills as they will be working in a fast paced and demanding environment. You should be educated to degree level or have the equivalent experience to succeed in this role.

Key experience essential for the role of Senior IT Technician based in Peterborough:

Must live within a commutable distance of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire
Must have a full driving licence with business use to travel between sites
Ideally the candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent qualifications (e.g: CCENT/MCP/MCITP)
Excellent knowledge of PC Hardware
Will have a good knowledge of/experience with network fault finding.
Will ideally have a good knowledge of Apple devices, mainly iPads & central management of them
