As part of the council’s Asset Strategy service, the Flood Risk Strategy team oversees the authority’s statutory duties as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) and Coastal Authority.
The team prepares and monitors the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and Coastal Strategy along with other relevant plans and policies. At present the team manages the largest flood and coastal risk investment programme of any English local authority.
The team directs the council’s overall approach to flood and coastal risk management, and works closely with other flood risk management authorities including the Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards and Yorkshire Water.
- develop and deliver long term flood risk management proposals, funding strategies and seek contributions for flood alleviation schemes. This will include: assessing funding sources, calculating outputs, writing funding bids, economic appraisals and leading on flood risk projects.
- produce and prepare key documents to promote the authority’s flood risk work.
- assist with undertaking the authority’s strategic duties and responsibilities under the Flood and Water Management Act (2010) and drainage legislation.
