The Open University is one of the UK’s most respected national institutions and the market leader in distance higher education. Since it opened to students in 1971, it has been inspiring learning and creating higher educational opportunities to all who wish to realise their ambitions and fulfil their potential, whatever their previous academic attainments. It has demonstrated excellence in research and teaching and confirmed its enormous reach through its use of open educational resources.

The Accounting Services section of Finance Division is responsible for providing accounting information and support to the University’s budget holders and University managers, and for preparing the annual consolidated financial statements.

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to support the Financial Accounting Team in providing financial accounting support and advice to the University Subsidiary Companies and other associated entities, including production of the annual financial statements.  In addition, you will support the production of various reports to senior managers and external agencies.

You will have relevant finance related work experience and good communication and organisational skills, excellent IT skills and be competent in creating and using complex Excel spreadsheets.  You will be required to work with minimal supervision; the ability to manage a varied work load and work to deadlines is essential.  You should be at least a part qualified accountant with one of the major accounting bodies (CCAB).
