Head of Packing – Pharmaceuticals / FMCG Role: Full-time, permanent Location: Fawdon, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Salary: Competitive bonus benefits The Role: We’re seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Packing to establish our new ‘late stage customisation’ operations, whilst integrating with our existing bulk packing activities on site – all in accordance with industry GxP and EHS regulations and company requirements. Taking ownership of our Packing delivery plan, you’ll feed in to our S&OP activities and work closely with our Planning team to establish effective work schedules, allowing you to coordinate appropriate labour and materials across all lines to ensure products are delivered on time, in full and to the required standards. With a strong focus on Quality and EHS, you’ll represent the Packing department at cross-functional meetings (flagging potential issues and ensuring robust improvement plans are put in place), attend daily ‘Quality, Cost & Delivery’ meetings and resolve any Deviations or CAPAs in a timely and effective manner. Instilling a culture of openness and integrity across your team, you’ll regularly review their skills and implement appropriate training, whilst evaluating capacity and succession planning to continually strengthen the department’s capabilities. Looking to the future, you’ll plan our long-term Packing strategies, meeting departmental targets through effective resource management and KPI setting to drive improved standards and efficiencies. With continuous improvement as the core of this role, you’ll conduct regular risk assessments, process reviews and department audits to identify opportunities and lead on the rollout of new initiatives – from optimising floor layout and productivity (people and equipment), to reducing changeover times and material wastage. In addition, you’ll manage the department’s CAPEX and OPEX budgets (from installations to introduction of new methodologies) and deputise for our Site Head, as required. The Person: With significant experience in a similar, senior level Production / Packing role, you’ll have an in-depth knowledge of GMP and GDP guidelines and experience of conducting quality, EHS and regulatory audits and leading continuous improvement initiatives (e.g. Kaizen, DMAIC, SMED, 5S, Six Sigma, Visual Factory). Ideally, you’ll have worked your way up via different departments (e.g. Engineering, Warehousing, Manufacturing), developing a sound understanding of end-to-end production processes and a strong Quality and EHS focus. Experience working in the pharmaceutical, healthcare or medical device sector would be beneficial. An experienced people manager, you’re accomplished in developing high performing teams, planning work and resource schedules and identifying training requirements. Taking a practical, hands-on approach to work, you foster a strong team mentality and remain approachable, empathetic and respectful at all times. With a passion for delivery and taking pride in your work, you’re known for setting effective KPIs and driving performance to meet targets. Analytical and logical, you’ll have good numeracy and IT skills along with excellent problem solving skills. Well organised, you’re comfortable managing work schedules to meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure. With strong communication and interpersonal skills, you’re confident liaising with all levels of authority and navigating cultural differences. A degree-level qualification in a relevant subject would be beneficial, but an HNC apprenticeship route (or equivalent) with sound experience is equally valuable. Qualifications or training in Lean production, project management or health & safety would also be desirable. T he Rewards: In return, we offer a competitive salary and rewards package (including holiday and pension scheme). Not to mention the opportunity to genuinely make a difference in a new and dynamic role within a progressive and expanding business, at an exciting time of growing international reach. This role represents a real opportunity for on-going development, learning and progression as the company continues to expand. How to Apply: If you possess the experience, passion and ability to make this role a success then we would love to hear from you. Please send your CV with covering letter by clicking on the 'Apply' button.
