Soft Landscape Team Leader
We are looking for seven (7) full-time hands-on staff with at least three years’ experience in commercial soft landscaping; two of which must have been whilst working in a team leader position.
Not only will you be extremely proficient at ALL levels of soft landscaping on either New House Builds – from several to 100+ plots or on commercial static sites, your high-level skillset will include turfing; as well as knowing how to prepare ground to turf; including addition of fertilizers and feeds, use of rotovators, strimmers, mowers and hand tools, tree planting (ALL sizes), shrub planting, with a sound horticultural background, knowledge and excellent skills of the above species.
We are pro-actively seeking experienced, punctual, committed, well-mannered individuals, preferably non-smokers, who are keen and able to learn to grow as our business model is driven forwards.
As a team leader, you will assist the Contracts Managers in supporting the operational staff that report to you to ensure your team delivers the workload to contract specification in a safe manner in accordance with our current H&S policy, risk assessments, method statements and the site policies that you will be a part of on a daily basis.
You will be required to undertake the team leading on site, with liaison with site managers and senior site managers, building solid, professional relationships to ensure delivery of our program is installed without a hitch and is as smooth as it can be and to express the site requirements to your team and Contracts Manager.
The candidate must possess confidence and authority, but in a professional calm manner that shows he or she is a natural leader. They should be a self-motivated individual who has a real, honest desire to improve all aspects of his and his team’s work. You need to possess the skills to be a team player as often you will be working as a small team of two or three men, but on occasion with the addition on larger contracts to work in much larger groups with other team leaders. It is in these situations where the team leaders work as one single unit to ensure cohesion.
It will be your responsibility that your team are loaded and ready for the following morning with the correct tools, equipment and materials to cover your work for that day. You will also be responsible for the welfare and safety of not only your team, but also ALL equipment that you take out each day – of which will be signed out and back in on a daily basis. You will work with the Contracts Manager each morning to complete these duties.
It is imperative that on our sites you actively and pro-actively meet the standards for all Health & Safety and PPE guidelines – we operate a zero tolerance and as such it is your responsibility to take responsibility for your own day-to-day H&S matters and the safety of those around you in accordance with VDW Landscapes H&S policies, risk assessments and method statements
It would be preferable for you to possess a full, clean driver’s licence and a recognised Horticultural qualification, such as an NVQ level 3 or RHS certificates, but these are not essential if your skillset and previous positions can be demonstrated to be of a very high and suitable level.
Essential is a Green – landscape operative card and preferably a ROLO training card which can be obtained through a one-day training course via BALI. If you are not in possession of these, please can you apply independently and pass the simple test prior to your application as we cannot interview or employ anyone without them. If you are the right candidate however, we may be able to pay and provide the ROLO and CSCS training courses on your behalf which will come with provisions for repayment.
Pay is commensurate with experience and overtime is paid. Paid weekly.
