An excellent opportunity has now arisen for an Apprentice Science Technician to join the college’s science department. Reporting to the Head of Science, you will be responsible for the maintenance and effective operation of equipment and resources in science as well as providing support to teachers, mentors and students in the effective delivery of science courses both within and outside the classroom.
Your responsibilities will include the preparation of materials, consumables and equipment for staff and students. You will ensure the operation of the stock system in the department, making sure that departmental resources are logged and accounted for on a weekly basis.
Whilst working alongside other technicians within the college to share best practice, you will provide support to students in practical workshops/classrooms under guidance from teachers and mentors including maintaining an awareness of health and safety at all times and assisting in ensuring that the students are aware of good practices and procedures. You will also, from time to time, be required to assist with extra-curricular activities such as open events.
In order to be successful in this role, it is essential that candidates either hold the appropriate technical qualification to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in chemistry and will hold a GCSE (or equivalent) at A-C grade in English language, mathematics and science.
You will possess good communication and organisation skills whilst demonstrating outstanding customer care at all times and with your energy, enthusiasm and flexibility you will have an ability to work as part of a team whilst demonstrating your empathy for the needs of young adults.
