LOCATION: Sheffield, South Yorkshire (S17)

JOB TITLE:  Cook (Residential home)

SALARY & BENEFITS: £8.36 per hour (Circa 16k pro rata) plus benefits

WORKING HOURS: Full time Monday to Friday (flexibility to work occasional weekend days when required)

THE COMPANY:  Our client is the UK’s leading charity supporting disabled people. For over 65 years they have supported disabled people in many different ways. Their Nursing home in Totley, Sheffield looks after young people with a range of physical disabilities, learning disabilities and complex needs.

THE ROLE:  Cook/Chef-Sheffield, South Yorkshire (S17)

The successful applicant will be required to prepare, cook, and assist in daily menu planning, maintaining food preparation areas, completing paperwork, supervising kitchen assistants, stock ordering and rotation and general kitchen duties.  Good communication skills are essential in this role.  Experience of working in a residential or School/ Nursery service would be advantageous. 

Subsidised meals are available.

Key Responsibilities to include: - Cook/Chef-Sheffield, South Yorkshire (S17)
  • To prepare all food items for cooking and presentation in advance of mealtimes, so that service users can dine at appropriate times.  To provide catering for parties, buffets, picnics and other special functions that are authorised by the Service Manager.
  • To plan menus to provide nutritionally balanced, varied and attractively presented meals for service users and staff, providing where necessary for any special diets and taking note of service users’ preferences and making best use of seasonal foods.
  • To check food stocks and order stores and supervises the receipt and storage of foodstuffs and stock records.  Invoices to be checked and forwarded to the financial/accounts administrator for processing.
To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.

Key Experience preferred for the role:- Cook/Chef-Sheffield, South Yorkshire(S17)


-                      Previous experience of working in a kitchen environment. Essential

-                      Experience of planning menus and manging budgets in a catering role would be highly desirable

-                      NVQ Level 1 in Catering or equivalent catering qualification(Level 2 would be an advantage)

-                      Basic Food Hygiene (Intermediate Food Hygiene would be an advantage)

-                      To be able to work rostered hours.

-                      Experience of working with disabled people is desirable

-                      An engaging manner with ability to build rapport with people.

-                      Passion, enthusiasm and a real commitment to make a difference to people lives

-                      A reliable approach to work

-                      Car and own vehicle desirable but not essential
