The Flood Risk Strategy Team oversees the council’s statutory duties as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) and Coastal Authority as part of the Asset Strategy Service.
The team prepares and monitors the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and Coastal Strategy together with other relevant plans and policies. Presently the team manages the largest flood and coastal risk investment programme of any English local authority.
The team directs the council’s overall approach to flood and coastal risk management and works closely with other flood risk management authorities including the Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards and the local water company.
- prepare, monitor and review flood risk management strategies, plans and policies including the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, Coastal Strategy and catchment level Flood Risk Management Plans
- prepare and submit high quality bids to secure additional external funding for a wide variety of flood alleviation schemes
- assist in undertaking the council’s strategic duties and responsibilities under the Flood Water Management Act and drainage legislation.
