LOCATION: Burgess Hill, West Sussex 

JOB TITLE: Food Service Assistant 

SALARY & BENEFITS: £7.83 - £15.66, free uniform and free staff meals 

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours, 4 days a week as rostered, alternative weekends

THE COMPANY: Our client based in Burgess Hill, West Sussex provide care with nursing for elderly frail residents and those with mental health problems. Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with views on the South Downs and across the 250 acres of gardens and farmlands. Made up of 3 separate homes and a retirement village. They are now looking to recruit a Food Service Assistant for one of their 3 homes. 

THE ROLE: As a Food Service Assistant your role will vary in duties. You will be responsible for the smooth running of the dining areas and pantries. You will have daily interaction with the residents and visitors and maintain a professional approach each day. You will have the opportunity to learn as well as offering the residents an efficient pleasant service. 

Pay rates: 

£7.83 – 40 hours
£11.75 - £40+ hours
£15.66 – Bank Holidays 

Key Responsibilities:

• Setting up the dining room and pantries in preparation for the serving of meals, whilst maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the dining and community areas
• Serving meals and drinks to our residents
• Washing up following each meal
• Serving light refreshments and snacks to the residents throughout the day
• Assisting with general kitchen duties when required
• Any other ad hoc duties required by the Home Manager/Chef Manager 

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for the role of Food Service Assistant will come from a catering background. Experience in a nursing home would be highly advantageous. You will be comfortable interacting with the homes residents and have a caring and patient nature in doing so. 

Key experience essential for the Food Service Assistant role:
• Minimum of 1 year catering experience essential
• NVQ or Food hygiene certificate – Not essential but highly desirable 
• Work experience / personal experience of elderly/ dementia or patients with mental health desirable 
• Available to work Bank holidays and weekends when required essential 
• Happy to undertake an enhanced CRB check
