LOCATION: Northampton, Northamptonshire

JOB TITLE: Department Manager 

SALARY & BENEFITS: Depending on experience + 32 days holiday rising to 37 after 5 years of service

WORKING HOURS: Monday – Thursday 7.30am – 4.30pm and Friday 7.30am – 12.30pm 

THE COMPANY: Our client is a rapidly expanding shoe manufacturer who pride themselves on their tradition and history within the Northampton area. From being established in 1873, they have held a strong position within the industry and continue to develop and seek new ventures. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Department Manager to join their team on a full time permanent basis.

THE ROLE: The role of a Department Manager will be to take ownership and be responsible for ensuring that resources are co-ordinated, balanced and allocated efficiently and effectively within your area to ensure a consistent flow of work within the network ensuring performance targets are met.

Key Responsibilities/Duties of a Department Manager to include:- 

• Ensure that production targets are met in line with Company requirements to make sure that the factory achieves the required production total and delivery dates for customers at the end of each week.
• Plan and control daily / weekly resource requirements 
• Monitor productivity and efficiencies
• Ensure that footwear production is in line with the approved Company standard focusing on the reduction of rejections through continuous improvement and adherence to Company quality standards.
• Liaise with senior management as appropriate to ensure that they are kept aware of all issues relating to operating costs, employee relations and headcount
• Ensure stock takes are managed in line with Company procedures.
• Initiate and be involved in appropriate training/re-training/counselling and disciplinary procedures where necessary 
• Monitor sickness and absence within your department
• Ensure integrity of wage payments through correct use of time and attendance system and agreed piecework/day rates

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for the Department Manager role will be trained and have previous experience in this type of work. You will be an excellent communicator with a passion for ensuring superb quality products are being produced. You will need to live within a commutable distance to Northampton.
