Job Summary

DELTA supports the university in implementing its strategic goals in teaching and learning, extending access and the student experience. An Assistant Project Officer is required to support the university’s work to widen access to those from under-represented groups.

As a member of DELTA’s wider access team you will work with colleagues to deliver a number of projects in the area of wider access, with a particular focus on engaging with school pupils, university applicants and enrolling students. You will have a HND or equivalent in a relevant subject area and an understanding of secondary and higher education.

As Assistant Project Officer you will be required to work as part of a team, bringing creativity and ambition to deliver success. An ability to co-ordinate projects and the demands of competing priorities will be essential components of this post.

A PVG check will be required for the successful applicant.

Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Access Pathways Lead

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility


An Assistant Project Officer is required to support DELTA in developing its work in wider access.

The role will require the individual to develop and co-ordinate a variety of projects and initiatives in support of the school and applicant engagement programmes, working with existing team members to deliver success.


Assist with the daily management and co-ordination of projects, ensuring a focus on outcomes and on-time delivery.

Assist with the production of project briefs and agreements.

Co-ordinate wider access programmes and events, ensuring these run smoothly and present the Department appropriately.

Maintain effective engagement and communication with partners within and external to the University, ensuring partners remain well informed and clear of any responsibilities.

Set up meetings to agree key project outcomes and milestones and to track progress.

Maintain and manage accurate records using appropriate databases and information systems.

Prepare notes of meetings, ensuring any actions arising are followed up.

Ensure project files are up to date.

Undertake general administrative requirements.

Qualifications and Professional Requirements

HND in relevant subject area.

Knowledge and Experience

Knowledge of secondary and higher education.

An ability to use office software packages (e.g. Word, Outlook).

Experience of working with young people.

Daily management and co-ordination of projects and events.

Setting up meetings and preparing formal notes of these.

Maintaining records, ensuring these remain up-to-date and accurate.

Undertaking general administration (including work processing, dealing with enquires and routine correspondence).
