At The Co-op Food we believe in putting our customers, colleagues and communities at the heart of everything we do. We encourage our teams to share their ideas to help us improve the way we work in our state-of-the-art depots. The Primary Inbound operation is the very first step in our supply chain, making sure that we get fresh and ambient products from our suppliers to our customers. In the course of a week, primary will oversee 60,000 pallets of products across our depots and manager over 4,000 vehicles. Over the next three years, Primary will expand into new areas and will be generating over £60 million.

In this exciting new team you'll be tasked with growing the Primary operation and developing the Primary offer by expanding into new operational channels. This is a truly strategic role, and offers the opportunity for you to put your own stamp on what is a very important part of the Co-op business.

What you'll do

* Explore new ways of improving or re-designing our existing inbound operation.

* Identify new operational channels to drive efficiency and financial benefits.

* Create compelling business plans and secure agreement from senior management to your proposals

* Take responsibility for the implementation of your planned initiatives and the delivery of the benefits

* Utilise your extensive industry network to understand 'best practise' in the Primary field.

As it will be your own ideas on how we can do business better, we'd ideally like you to have a similar background to make sure you understand the full process of how a transport and logistics operation works. Since you'll be building compelling business cases, we'll need you to have a really strong business and commercial outlook. You'll also understand and very likely have worked in a 3rd party operation or a retail Primary operation. However, it'll be your hands-on and down to earth approach that will really help you get going quickly in this new and exciting role.

What you need

* Extensive experience in either a food retail logistics operation or appropriate 3PL service provider.

* Comprehensive understanding of transport consolidation operations, ambient in particular.

* Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.

* Strong commercial and business insight.

* Proven organisational and project management experience

If you can help us grow our business, we can offer you a whole world of opportunity. As well as a competitive salary and some brilliant benefits, you'll get the chance to develop your skills and progress your career with a business that puts people at the heart of its strategy. We're going on an amazing journey.

Why Co-op?

172 years ago a group of businessmen in Rochdale created an idea that changed the world. They believed that when people work together, they're stronger. And that principles are just as important as profits. They were pioneers. And they left us a legacy that's never been more important or relevant than it is today.

We want to change the world all over again. And we know that to achieve our goal, we need to recruit teams that reflect the communities we serve. We're committed to equal opportunities and value diversity, we're re-discovering the pioneering spirit on which a British institution was built. If you believe in our purpose, then join us. And make a real contribution to the revival of an iconic brand.
