Our client a leading professional body is now seeking a Business Development Executive - Southern based from home ideally located close to the M4 Corridor - Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, South Wales or Somerset

If you are a consultative Field Sales, Business Development, Key Account, Account Management Executive or Manager working for either a Professional Body, Membership Organisation, Trade Association, Chartered Institute, Awarding Body, Training Provider, Education Provider, Course Provider, University, Schools, College, Engineering organisation, Engineers firm we would love to hear from you.

To carry out sales and marketing activities aimed at the recruitment, migration and retention of Members across industry and academia throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities

Develop existing accounts with employers and academia, contributing to the growth of the Institution's membership at every level.

Provide a defined number of sales presentations to designated cohorts of potential and migrating members of the Institution.

Provide 121 and workshop support as defined by the Business Development Manager towards professional registration and membership.

Undertake client visits and qualify Member recruitment opportunities.

Deliver workshops and presentations to facilitate Member recruitment.

Undertake a number of home-based telemarketing campaigns to support on-going acquisition, retention and migration campaigns.

Develop and maintain appropriate contacts - academics, members and employers ensuring the central marketing database is kept up to date.

Support professional development activities.

Support Business Development Managers in the implementation of their agreed Membership growth projects in region.

Focus on recruitment of specific membership types, campaign to apprentices and time-served technicians, as outlined in the annual marketing plan.

Support and attend conferences, exhibitions and external and events as the business development representative for the Institution.

Undertake a defined number of presentations in academia and industry to recruit student members.


Experience in a marketing, business development or sales environment.

Highly organised with excellent planning, reporting and communication skills.

Strongly motivated to achieve results, with a high degree of professionalism, honesty and integrity.

Ability to influence, advise and coach others with strong stakeholder engagement skills.

Excellent communicator, both orally and written.

Able to adjust their communications style to a wide range of audiences.

Able to make rational, realistic and sound decisions.

Proven experience of managing own workload with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.

E-literate and competent in developing, administering and using PC and associated networks and systems (e.g. Microsoft Office) to acquire, manipulate and disseminate information.

Current driving licence, up to 6 points.


Experience of working in a membership organisation.

An interest in or experience of engineering and/or career development and professional development.
