Researcher / Project Manager – Materials Research We are looking for an exceptional PhD qualified candidate with post-doc experience to manage a research project using cutting edge technology in the fields of Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. Working with research groups in the UK and abroad, the project is looking at ways to utilise fibrous agricultural waste from tropical zones to produce viable materials that may have applications in the defence sector and related industries. In this role you will focus on the development of a viable process to ‘clean’ the waste using novel chemical processes and biological enzymes. The result will leave a material high in silica content which may have a range of industrial engineering applications. Initially a hands-on approach will be required, but following proof of concept, the role will become more managerial. You will also be working in partnership with university research groups. Ultimately the role will develop into international project management with travel to Asia and liaison with industry partners and governments both in the UK and abroad. This is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to work on a global project and enhance their skills and reputation in their field. Candidate: PhD in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or similar. Industry sponsored research, or industry post-doc experience in a relevant area. Solid academic record. Hands-on skills in chemistry / chemical engineering. Lab scale-up, process engineering, analysis and bench chemistry. Project management skills and experience. Exceptional communication skills. Flair for business, entrepreneur. Happy working outside the laboratory, as well as coordinating laboratory work undertaken by more junior scientists. Willing to travel extensively within the UK, and abroad. Able to successfully undergo UK Security Clearance. Available to start October 2016. This job was originally posted as
