Polytec are recruiting for a Part-Time Purchasing Executive on behalf of our Royston based client. The company are offering flexible hours for the right candidate: 5 mornings or afternoons, or 3 full days, or school hours only. You'll take responsibility for the Purchasing activity in terms of input to new products, support for Production, vendor management, purchasing administration and cost reduction. A generous hourly rate is on offer and the role is expected to last for approximately 3 months. What You'll Be Doing Assist with supplier/component selection and cost/quality effectiveness input to the NPI process Assist with control of the build standard and cost estimation/tracking Assure accuracy of purchasing information in terms of pricing, quantities, specification and tooling Manage the supplier/development interface and call regular meetings as appropriate Assist in identifying supplier risks and develop risk mitigation plans with teams Regular reviews of quality, delivery, cost and business issues with key vendors Maintain a set of vendor performance metrics and ensure these are communicated to the vendors/internally Ensure that key delivery schedules are progressed and changes planned with suppliers Assist with setting up "pull" based materials systems including buffer stocks and call-off orders Identify the need for contractual agreements or Plan Bs where there is a continuity of supply risk Ensure optimum level of service is provided by vendors Ensure materials delivery schedules are progressed where there is a risk of stopping Production Ensure outstanding deliveries progressed, affected areas made aware and escalated if necessary Ensure production shortages resolved in a timely manner and communicated with the relevant teams Assist with the timely and precise cut-in of ECNs with the appropriate teams and suppliers Process rejects in a timely manner and ensure actions communicated to appropriate teams Monitor the pricing and cost effectiveness of manufacturing and development parts Ensure purchase orders acknowledged and work with suppliers to resolve any discrepancies Maintain accurate and up-to-date information on products and suppliers on Syteline Assist with the timely and accurate processing of supplier invoices and resolve any queries Support the APS system Amend and consolidate where required, purchase requests Assist Manufacturing Engineering department to identify and implement cost reduction ideas on current product Assist Development teams to ensure new product design are cost reviewed and optimised Ensure that pricing is negotiated and pricing agreements regularly reviewed Provide support for the manufacture transfer of products and processes Contributing to annual cost saving targets and maintain and publish a KPI What We're Looking For: Professional Purchasing Qualifications GCSEs in numerate subjects At least 2 years' successful Purchasing experience Understanding of technical products and supplier processes Good understanding of Purchasing and Vendor Management best practice Excellent communication and presentation skills Ability to work in partnership to achieve results and consider wider business implications. Good understanding of Purchasing systems and practices "Hands on" approach to solving problems in a calm and effective manner Sound negotiation skills and abilities Ability to work in partnership to achieve results and consider wider business implications Ability to gather information from multiple database sources, to analyse and present conclusions Cost / Benefit analysis Ability to work without supervision and exhibit initiative and pro-activity Proven experience of team working Exposure to a relevant products and technology Experience of solving challenging business problems Bonus: Knowledge of Mechanical or Electronic technology Familiarity with high technology businesses SAP and similar ERP systems experience Experience of designing material flow systems Experience of purchasing contract law Experience of initiating or contributing to product design improvements Manufacturing transfer Experience of outsourced manufacture and supply.
