A superb opportunity for a Mechanical Project Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer to join one of the UK's leading instrumentation development companies. This is a brand new vacancy following the award of a major new contract to develop a number of really exciting high technology instruments for the Space & Satellite industry.

As Project Engineer / Mechanical Design Engineer you will ensure projects are delivered to customers' requirements and specifications, plus you will be heavily involved in a broad range of engineering activities for other upcoming space projects. You will need to have a mechanical engineering background developed within a highly regulated industry (Space Industry prefered) with experience of Mechanical & thermal analysis tools (e.g. Nastran, Patran, ESATAN, Cosmos, ANSYS) as well as standard design tools such as (Pro-E/CREO, SolidWorks, AutoCad, Catia).


- Technical and Project Management of space hardware projects ensuring successful delivery of project requirements.
- Hands-on design and analysis covering mechanical, thermal and electrical performance
- Support and develop other project engineers / work package owners
- Generate all required technical documentation
- Technical oversight and support for all MAIT activities
- Report to and coordinate with customers including major European space and aerospace companies.
- Visit customers / suppliers / partners off site for progress meetings
- Support business development activities, helping to bring in future projects and generally contribute to the broader development of the company.

Mechanical Project Engineer Job Requirements:


- An Engineering Degree (1st or 2:1) in a technical engineering discipline such as aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or maybe physics / astro-physics etc.
- Strong track record as engineer / lead engineer on highly regulated hardware projects
- Experience and understanding of thermomechanical engineering and FEA.
- A strong working knowledge of appropriate subsystem & instrument design activities, including:
- Mechanical engineering, including: thermal, structural, materials
- Systems engineering, including technical requirements specification, verification and testing
- One or more standard design tools (e.g. Pro-E/CREO, SolidWorks, AutoCad, Catia)
- Mechanical & thermal analysis tools (e.g. Nastran, Patran, ESATAN, Cosmos, ANSYS)

- A general working knowledge of general good working practice in parts, materials and processes
- Basic electrical/electronic principles covering harnesses, sensors, connectors, thermometry.
- High degree of IT literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications
- Ability to generate large amounts of high quality project documentation quickly.


- Broader space / space systems engineering knowledge
- Experience of instruments such as radiometers and calibration systems, high-precision (mK) thermometry, IR/Infrared, RF and microwave engineering.
- Experience with any of JAXA, ISRO, NASA/NOAA and CASC practices
- Chartered Engineer or membership of relevant professional body
- Post-graduate qualification (e.g. MEng, MSc, PhD.)

General Information:

This role is office based in West Sussex (commutable from Guildford, Worthing, Brighton, Crawley, Farnborough etc.) with some travel involved, for example to customer meetings, project reviews etc.

Salary: £40k - £45k + benefits.
