I am currently recruiting for one of my key clients in Manchester who are now seeking a Design Team Leader to join and be responsible for running their design team. The client is looking for someone who has solid experience of end to end delivery, has some line management experience , and someone who is confident in communicating with the business, their customers and the project stakeholders.

The client design and manufacture materials handling machinery and are ideally looking for someone who to be responsible for the following:

Ensure department provides a responsive service to all its 'customers'
Improved 'right first time' of projects; improve production assembly
Improved efficiencies of the engineering team against current standard times by improvement of the existing processes
Ensuring projects costs (production) / estimates are understood against actual costs.
Liaise closely with technical managers to create high quality, high performance material handling solutions
Preparation of conceptual designs and rendered images
Contribute to new product design, reducing costs and lead times by investigating and implementing new design techniques and manufacturing processes
Responsible for carrying out risk assessments and advising safe methods of work
Responsible for ensuring designs meet required regulatory compliance, CE compliance, Machinery Directives, LVD, etc. Ensure safety, health and environment is inherent in all projects
Preparation of technical quotations and producing estimates of product costs
Develop, maintain and amend engineering design drawings using 2D and 3D software packages

The client is looking for a Design Team Leader with experience in:
Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Experienced in leading/ running projects independently
Performing risk assessments
Experience in the design to order industry
Experience in conceptual design and rendered imaging
Finite Element Analysis experience
Broad experience of product specification, design and new product introduction
Formal design change management process knowledge
2D and 3D design techniques
Knowledge of fabrication, welding, sand/die casting, vacuum forming processes
Design of conveyor material handling solutions
labour intensive, manually assembled manufacture
Specification, and design of jigs and fixtures
Knowledge of ERP systems
Autodesk Inventor experience (or similar 3D CAD packages)

The client is paying up to 40k and the package includes an annual bonus, contributory pension, life insurance, private healthcare and childcare vouchers.
