Our client is a leading construction consultancy, they are well known in the industry and provide excellent training, support and project work in order to develop their staff in order to construct and create high profile project work. They have an exciting opportunity for a Junior to intermediate level Commercial Manager to join their team in North London to work within a commercial team with the purpose of identifying and managing commercial risk on construction development project work.

This role would suit a Quantity Surveyor, Contracts Administrator or financially astute Assistant Project Manager who wants to take a step up to the next level of their career.

Responsibilities include:

- Commercially analyse / review existing business practices and procedures, identifying Commercial and Financial risks and proposing and project managing iterative improvement.
- Check the quality and completeness of professional fee proposals prior to submission against agreed norms, where appropriate recommending improvement to such norms.
- Carry out project reviews on key projects which have a material impact on the commercial and service delivery performance of the overall business and report to the Commercial Director.
- Formulate action plans of necessary improvements to business processes and procedures to achieve efficiencies in the day to day running of business units.
- Provide the necessary tools to the relevant business units to improve commercial processes and achieve localised ownership of projects.
- Project manage action plans to ensure successful implementation against agreed deadlines.
- Build up a "boilerplate" of standard "fixes" from lessons learned that can be customised, ensuring the application of these where required to reduce business risk.
- Provide commercial support to local management teams during periods of commercial improvement / change..
- Interface with project managers to investigate potential improvements in billing and capture of additional income.
- Investigate individual "ad hoc" commercial / financial problems and undertake analysis of the financials / contractual context to propose solutions. This may require engagement with in house legal advisors.
- Support the Commercial Director in major bids and work winning opportunities
- Ensure the correct level of Collateral Warranty, Professional Indemnity etc relating to individual consultancy contracts is negotiated
- Work with project managers and a wide spectrum of Managers within the team from Executive Directors and Financial Directors to Local Operational / Finance Managers.
- Provide reviews of completeness / accuracy of reported work in progress (WIP) either at a project or business level by analysing the project's programme progress against agreed fee drawdown.
- Identify areas for commercial improvement in the delivery of long term projects / contracts
- Apply and promote the businesses' Major Project and commercial protocols.
- Undertake regular training to satisfy personal development criteria; including regular refresher training on contract drafting, changes in relevant legislation and commercial protocols.

Experience / Employee Specification required:

- Demonstrable experience in commercial and cost management within the construction or outsourcing sector.
- Good people skills ability to disarm suspicion and get to the root of management shortfalls.
- Appropriate MS Excel and Word skills to write reports that contain financial / commercial data
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Good relationship management skills both with colleagues and clients.
- Commercial awareness and acumen.
- Able to plan their work and meet deadlines; prioritising key tasks and agreeing re-scheduled timescales or re-allocating work where there are competing deadlines.
