A leading European distributor of industrial parts are in the process of strengthening their procurement function through the introduction of a newly created role of Strategic Procurement Manager. The successful Strategic Procurement Manager will be joining a business that boast significant European market share, with operations in 28 countries and annual sales in excess of $2.4b. They currently carry a product range of over 600,000 SKUs, covering a range of both specialist and general products, and offer a secure, long term career opportunity as well as a fantastic working environment set out in the countryside amongst rolling fields, big trees and one or two cows As Strategic Procurement Manager you will be responsible for leading the commercial and strategic engagement with the existing supplier base (circa 6000) to deliver a number of critical objectives to improve the efficiency of the business network in procuring from strategic suppliers, working cross functionally to establish the optimum supply chain, measures and controls for the product range offered to customers. You understand that your role is about more than just procurement, its about ensuring you are giving your sales colleagues the best possible chance of maximising sales by offering your products at better rates than the competition, with better quality, better service and a better overall experience. You will be responsible for contract negotiation, delivering market leading competitive terms, cost reductions and value add services, taking into account the full supply chain, including lead times, logistics, and service. You will drive contract compliance against strategy and policy, identify continuous improvement opportunities and consolidate the supplier base where possible. You will undertake strategic sourcing activities to identify new products and supplier and ensure terms for supply are always the most competitive. This role will require high levels of contract negotiation, driving contract compliance and developing supply chain performance as these are all key elements required to improve overall performance, streamline measures and foster & develop a professional procurement function. To be considered for this Strategic Procurement Manager you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience: Strategic sourcing experience focusing on a wide range of products, including low cost country sourcing High degree of analytical ability, interpreting large volumes of data to help you identify the angle for the negotiation A strong level of understanding around end to end supply chain operations, enabling you to look at the total cost of purchase rather than simply product price Proven experience of negotiating outstanding commercial contracts, delivering cost improvements and undertaking supplier relationship management Knowledge of Industrial MRO products is ideal, however applications are also particularly welcomed from those with Retail procurement / suppy chain experience as well as those from a high volume, high sku manufacturing environment Experienced and confident in utilising ERP systems, e-procurement platforms and tendering tools Educated to degree level or equivalent CIPS advantageous but not essential Willingness to travel within the UK upto 30% of the time with very occasional overseas travel In return the successful Strategic Procurement Manager will receive a remuneration package that includes the following: Base salary of circa £48-55k Company car Bonus up to 30% of base salary (made up on behavioural, personal performance and business performance) Contributory Pension Gleeson Procurement & Supply Chain is a specialist recruiter of leadership roles and technical specialists on both a permanent and temporary basis, into a number of industries including 3PL, construction, retail, service sector, automotive, aerospace, general manufacturing and FMCG.
