Engineering Technician The role is shift based covering 42 hours per week ,for a 9 month temporary role with a potential opportunity to become a permanent role To effectively maintain the equipment within the factory in a manner which upholds the quality of the operation, focussing on output, product quality, cost effectiveness and the preservation and improvement of the company's machinery. Ensure root cause analysis and problem solving techniques are carried out to maximise the efficiency and safety of plant and machinery, with the focus on enabling Production to meet their targets on time, on cost and to set quality standards, always being paramount. Provide expertise in Mechanical and Pneumatic control systems ensuring efficient plant operation. Must have electrical experience in basic fault finding, PLC experience desired. OEE of >55% Plant availability >98% Responsible for 11 filling lines and 6 pastuerising lines NATURE & SCOPE OF THE JOB AND HOW IT IMPACTS ON THE CONSUMER Plant availability OEE Sites ability to produce in full and on time consistently Product integrity Product shortages to customer Poor quality to consumer KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Educated in Mechanical Engineering. Proven electrical capabilities (Will be assessed) Completion of an apprenticeship. Food Hygiene/Health & Safety Certificate desirable Proven ability to actively apply skills in a safe and effective manner. Ability to develop, an excellent technical knowledge of the plant. Relevant food/liquid manufacturing/filling experience essential. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES A list of statements identifying the end results required, covering the key areas to produce the results necessary to achieve the job. Be proactive and responsive to breakdowns in the plant and with the equipment in a manner which meets the day-to-day needs of the production department. Build strong awareness of departmental needs thereby maximising production output and ensuring the smooth flow of the operation. Prioritise, through consultation with Production Shift Manager and Maintenance Manager, the order of own workload, taking into account factory needs. Communicate effectively with Production Team Leaders, Operators and all engineering staff. Contribute to the upkeep of all relevant technical documentation. Ensure both group and individual objectives are positively progressed in line with the Dairy Crest Maintenance Strategy, and positively contribute to site initiatives as requested (to include HACCP, TAS etc). Work with the factory planned maintenance system to both develop and complete planned maintenance routines whilst constantly monitoring the effectiveness of the system. Raise purchase order requisitions for spare parts as required, and liaise with the Engineering Services Support Controller to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained and complying with budgetary constraints and administrative systems. Work within, and enhance where possible, the team working structure on the site and actively participate in team meetings with Production, Technical, external suppliers and customers. Ensure that an adequate level of cover is provided during times of holiday, sickness and training by liaising with colleagues and working overtime as required. Implement performance improvement projects as identified by the Maintenance Manager. Manage small projects as per the site plan and in conjunction with the Maintenance Manager or appointed project lead. Be responsible for identifying faults and assessing and communicating the effects on production, taking into account likely times scales for resolution and consequences of downtime. Identify when safety standards can be improved and take appropriate action to implement improvements. Assist Production in devising strategies to achieve output, quantity, quality, hygiene, and cost targets.
