You will be using your skills in digital design to ensure that our services delight, not just satisfy. As part of this role, you will be working closely with product owners, customers and users to interpret their needs and turn these needs into designs that developers can use to deliver software applications that are usable, delightful, practical and accessible. Job Responsibilities: Work with users and product managers to help to visualise their needs. Work as part of a team of developers to ensure that user needs are translated into code via clear design. Take part in feedback activities to show progress and seek further input. Ensure that your designs and the development that arises from them are consistent with the Met Office brand guidelines. Ensure that all products are developed in line with Met Office and external standards. Supervise and mentor more junior design colleagues. Remain abreast of trends and new design concepts, introducing them where appropriate to keep our applications fresh. Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities: Degree in human computer interaction or relevant experience. Evidence of a imaginative and creative approach to solving design problems in a timely manner. Ability to grasp fresh concepts and implement efficient, effective solutions in a timely manner. Evidence of an ability to work on individual activities as well as participate effectively in a team environment. Evidence of an ability to provide support and training for others. Enthusiasm for and understanding of how to provide a professional, high-quality service and work to demanding deadlines. Understanding of design in software development and an enthusiasm for working in the IT arena. Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities: An understanding of User Centred Design (UCD) methodology. The ability to use industry standard software (Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator. Experience of the web development using including HTML5 and CSS3.
