Our clients in Cambridge are seeking a Mechanical Engineer who specialises in fluid mechanics, ideally at postdoctoral level, to contribute to the design, build and testing of novel instrumentation for DNA synthesis. The role will work very closely with the engineering and chemistry teams to exploit the unique features of a novel chip technology to advance DNA synthesis. Responsibilities Development of both analytic and numerical models of the fluid dynamics Design and execution of experiments to refine models and inform direction Management of activities to deliver objectives within agreed cost and time constraints Analysis and presentation of experimental data Design, procurement and test of various mechanical components Liaising closely with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists Requirements Highly motivated and knowledgeable individual, with experience of working within a closely-knit, cross-disciplinary team who is used to meeting challenging and rewarding developmental milestones. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a positive attitude and a strong focus on delivery: Educated to degree level or higher in mechanical engineering, with a focus on fluid mechanics Excellent analytic skills, with the ability to solve real-world mathematical problems Strong programming skills, ideally in a Python environment, with experience of numerical modelling and data analysis Significant experience of mechanical CAD, ideally Solidworks, combined with a deep understanding of manufacturing techniques Practical skills in assembly and debug of mechanical components and systems Broad appreciation of other engineering disciplines, particularly electronics, software and automation Ability to work in a fast changing and developing environment that requires continual enhancement of knowledge and skills Willingness to work in a cross-disciplinary team and understand the technical constraints of all facets of the technology A desire and passion to work for a start-up company Benefits Good Salary, based on merit and reviewed annually Pension scheme Life assurance plan Private medical insurance 25 days annual holiday plus public holidays This job was originally posted as
