Main Role You will take a technical lead role on major medical technology development projects. The position will involve applying your physics knowledge and experience to create and evaluate solutions to technical problems. You will work within multi-disciplinary teams of highly talented people to develop world-leading medical products for our clients around the globe. As a Senior Consultant you are expected to be instrumental in the process of selling new projects. You should be self-reliant and help set the direction of our business by being a thought leader in your chosen field. Type of work The Medical Technology Division undertakes the development of innovative medical devices and equipment from concept to manufacture, often incorporating considerable technical challenges. Highly creative lateral thinking, excellent technical skills and a broad base of industry experience are combined to form a powerful development team. The work ranges from undertaking complete product developments from concept to market, to providing consulting services for clients on their technology, strategy or development processes. Responsibilities As a Senior Consultant, you will take the technical lead on projects working closely within teams of engineers, technicians, consultants and designers. You will be required to apply Physics, Mathematics and Scientific knowledge to solve challenging technical problems at all stages of the development process from concept creation to final product delivery. You will use your technical knowledge and experience to help guide our business and define technical areas for us to explore. You are actively encouraged to expand your profile and be a thought leader in your chosen field to bring awareness of skills and capabilities to the wider world. You will be experienced in the art of balancing technical ambitions against practical constraints and will have a track record of technical success. You will have commercial experience and awareness and with regard to technical issues, and act as the first point of contact for both clients and other engineers on projects. Your role will include using your strong technical expertise to liaise with clients to understand their technical needs and prepare proposals which capture these needs. You will be involved with hands-on product development and design of complex systems. Your strong creative and technical skills should allow you to make a significant contribution to development projects and to participate in consultancy work within client companies. Your specific responsibilities are likely to include: Taking ownership and responsibility of finding solutions to technical challenges on major medical device developments Leading teams of technologists/engineers to develop high integrity complex systems for medical devices Working closely with engineers and technicians to implement and evaluate designs Writing technical reports and producing high quality design documentation Preparing technical programmes of work Presenting findings to internal and external clients Contribution to the development of internally funded, novel technologies and presentations at scientific conferences Requirements To meet the demanding requirements of this role you will be a talented, creative, analytical physicist, with excellent numerical and practical skills. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to challenge the status quo in your technical field and make a significant contribution to the advancement of technology in a commercial environment. You will have an excellent degree in Physics or a related Engineering discipline combined with relevant post graduate experience. Strong technical skills, with key strengths in practical application of the sciences are essential. We are interested to hear how your skills and experience can help us to resolve the challenges faced during the development of complex medical device. Medical device industry experience would be advantageous, but not essential. A post-graduate qualification with a high level of practical experience would also be advantageous. You will be a bright, enthusiastic team player with the ability and enthusiasm to mentor less experienced staff. Good communication skills are essential as a major part of your role will be interacting with clients and multi-disciplinary project teams made up of scientists, engineers and designers.
