As our Software Developer based at our Tunbridge Wells Office, you will be responsible for the design, development, support and maintenance of TGSL application software. Responsible for the communication of designs and for holding design reviews. Provide analysis related to software design and development, and solve problems. These responsibilities will be carried out using Microsoft Visual Studio (VB.Net / C#) / Visual Basic software development tools your design and estimate your own tasks. Complete tasks within these estimates and implement, test and debug modules and projects your Undertake assigned software development activities such as new application development, fault investigation and resolution, database scripting and optimisation, and data migration. Undertake software development in accordance with approved departmental procedures, good practice guidelines and coding standards. Make proper use of company systems such as source code control and incident management systems. Application of technical knowledge and expertise to assist in analysis, specification, design and change process activities. Provide appropriate estimation of development tasks as required. You will be responsible for the quality of design and estimates of developers who are working under your supervision. Flag to management concerns that developers are not responding to guidance and If appropriate, take responsibility for technical guidance and training of a developer in company techniques, code and standards and take technical responsibility for complex components and/or projects. Your actively participate and contribute to meetings (Development Board, internal & client facing) where a technical viewpoint is required your Participate in the developer recruitment process (CV review, interviews, selection etc.) To improve the performance of the development team and provide technical assistance to developers where appropriate. You will maintain familiarity with all company products and all the technologies used to build them and carry out research to be an expert on at least one area of current or new technology. Out of hours (OOH) support on a rota basis to cover morning, evening and weekend support shifts, Provide internal and external software release support and provide on-site client support (UK and Overseas) if required and participate in pre-sales activities to help demonstrate product capabilities as from time to time may be required by the Associate Director Application Development. You will also attend and/or call meetings as required and be responsible for any associated activities such as chairing the meeting, production of minutes, and completion of follow-up actions in a timely and detailed way through to completion of timesheets in the TGSL Time Management System. Any other tasks as from time to time may be assigned by the Associate Director Application Development. To join us you will Require: Essential Minimum of a 2:1 Degree in a Computing or Information Technology related discipline Minimum of 5 years software development experience. Desirable Minimum of 5 years related software development experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and training. Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) status beneficial. Knowledge of General Insurance industry valuable. Skills and Abilities Technical Highly experienced in C#, Visual Basic .Net, SQL Server 7/2000, XML, COM, ADO. Competent in COM, IIS, Web services, ASP, HTML, T-SQL. Familiarity with software development engineering practices, including design document review, coding to standards, source code documentation, version control etc. MS Office proficiency (Word and Excel) required. Personal Ability to think logically, solve technical problems and plan workload, to prioritise and meet deadlines. Has good time management skills, ability to schedule work, plan priorities and organize resources. Intuition, initiative, drive and a strong desire to succeed. Well developed and clearly defined communication skills. Ability to argue own viewpoint in a spirit of co-operation. Calm and level-headed, works well under pressure. Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals. An active team player, yet able to perform required duties with minimal supervision, motivates self without being asked or directed. Ability to represent the company in a positive and professional manner when interfacing with customers. Strives to continuously develop and improve own skills and knowledge.
