Our client based in a village location to the South of Cambridge is seeking a Systems Engineer to join a small and focussed team. This role will be responsible for the design, manufacture, commissioning and ongoing support of complex products across the company's varied portfolio. The ideal applicant will be degree qualified (electrical / electronics / controls engineering) with at least 5 years experience in a similar field whilst also being self driven, commercially aware and having a positive outlook. Comfortable leading small projects, good communication skills are key as well as being confident in dealing with customers and suppliers alike. This role may occasionally involve working at other company sites globally and therefore applicants must have a passport with no travel restrictions as well as a clean or near clean driving licence. Key responsibilities and accountabilities: Active contribution to the concept development phase of new projects, particularly the control / Data Acquisition subsystems (although not exclusively). Development of proof of concept modules to underwrite whole system performance, particularly related (but not limited) to high accuracy Data Acquisition systems. Design machine control solutions in .NET framework (principally C#). Support for the commissioning process (deployment, training, quality approval) at the receiving sites for machines supplied by the Cambridge site. Provide controls level support / maintenance to globally deployed machines. Specification and selection of OEM subsystems and management of subsequent supplier relationship. Specify, select and manage relevant suppliers and subcontractors, related to machine manufacture. Provide related skills to other company sites, with respect to projects they may run locally. Analysis of production data from supplied equipment to support and drive quality / yield / efficiency improvements at the company's global manufacturing locations. Provide support to customer quality issues as they arise. Academic / Professional Experience: Strong degree in electrical / electronics / controls engineering. At least 5 years auditable track record in this field. Job Skills: Working knowledge of the following is desirable, but not ultimately essential, depending on skills combinations; Machine computer control systems, Servo systems, Basic principles of electrical theory, PLC driven automated machinery, Robot control systems, Working with lasers, Vision systems, CE machinery safety directives automotive industry standards and working practices, Formal analysis techniques. Computer Skills: Highly IT literate, .NET framework (C#), SQL databases. Personal Attributes: Self-driven Positive outlook Commercially aware Good forward planning abilities Well presented Good communication skills Comfortable leading small project teams Confident in dealing with customers and suppliers. Other Essential Information: Able to occasionally spend periods working away from home Able to commute reliably to the Cambridge office. Able to occasionally work extended hours when required.
