About the role The Idox EIM Managed Services Team supports the business by designing, building, administering and maintaining the infrastructure for the companies’ web-based and hosted applications. This includes Windows, UNIX, Linux, network equipment and storage. Managed Services is a small team, and attempts as much as possible to “work smarter, not harder”, so are frequently re-evaluating latest technologies and ideas and implementing these where they fit with our model. New ways of thinking and working are part of the role, as is keeping constructive relationships with colleagues in development, IT, product teams, sales and support. You will be a core member of this team, and take responsibility for day to day operations of the production environments and supporting systems (development, test, bug tracking, subversion, configuration management etc), dealing with tickets raised by monitoring software, internal and external users, as well as a significant amount of project work. We work in a growing, fast paced, and highly visible environment. As such, the post holder needs to work calmly under pressure, have an eagerness to learn, and is experienced working with mission critical systems, within a SaaS/Cloud/ISP environment. Joining us as a specialist in the Windows domains, you can also expect professional development to gain experience in a variety of technologies, including Linux, Unix, Oracle etc. Responsibilities The post-holder will be a core team member of the Managed Services team, but will take particular responsibility for the Windows estate, and will be expected to champion best practice in deployment of Windows in Idox’s infrastructure. Duties include: · The installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems, storage, networking infrastructure, databases, and application software · Routine troubleshooting, capacity management and change control · Third line incident handling, interacting with the ticketing system and the maintenance of operating plans and schedules · Monitoring supporting systems such as backup servers, bug tracking systems, configuration systems etc, to ensure production is properly supported · Monitoring system and network security · Keeping up to date with industry changes, security, bug reports, and pertinent mailing lists · Analysis and diagnosis of problems with business applications · Building, configuring, backup and recovery of database systems · Monitoring and improving disaster recovery strategies · Provide on-call support (as part of the rota) for production systems and infrastructure, 24/7, 1 week in 4 · Responsibility for maintaining and improving own skills. Core Skills requirement: · Extensive experience and knowledge of administering Windows Server 2008 – 2012. Ideally to MCP level or equivalent industry experience · Experience and understanding of best practices of Windows Active Directory design, installation and administration (ideally within a distributed, multi environment infrastructure) · Exposure to working with and administering Citrix Xenapp and Citrix Netscaler · Knowledge of IIS web server and IIS applications. Useful Experience: · Any exposure to SQL Server · Any experience of Powershell scripting and automating regular tasks · Knowledge of monitoring systems, particularly Zabbix or Nagios · Experience with VMWare ESXi or other virtualisation tools.
