Process Improvement Leader Alfreton £ Competitive Very much a ‘hands on’ role, primarily to ensure the effective functioning of the “improvement activity” to meet the business plan. Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager. The PIL Leader is also the principal point of contact with the associates in the focus area, ensuring engagement with associates and promoting improvement activity across the value stream. This job concerns accomplishing tasks and reaching goals through the efforts of other people and as such they must be effective communicators at all levels and will work to implement Lean principles following the values of SQDC and the Production System. - Maintains focus within the factory and actively promotes and initiates improvements using agreed methodology to deliver targeted outcomes. - Builds commitment in Lean improvement and confidence in the individuals. - Managing of relationships to create a sense of urgency and action from supporting functions to achieve the agreed level of improvement. - Implement and ensure their assigned target areas are achieving the 5s standard. - Identify with the assigned associates improvement opportunities and manage the changes required to meet the improvement targets, including direct “hands on” work alongside factory associates. - Define and implement standardized work and coach associates and Shift Managers and VS Leaders. - Ensure all changes are compliant with work place safety and encourage others to follow the approved SSOW. - Ensure that any changes to process are compliant with the Company’s agreed quality standards. - Using audits, inspections and coaching, ensure all line-side KPI’s are maintained and support sustainability of the process. Actively reporting non-compliance to the Manufacturing Manager. - Deliver face to face briefs, presentations and other communications to report on progress and success of the improvement activity and generally promote an improvement culture. - Health, Safety and Environment (‘HSE’) - Carry out duties in accordance with Company Procedures, maintaining a high level of awareness and commitment in the Health, Safety and Environment aspects of work. In particular, carry out all operations in a safe manner, utilising appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as specified, and complying with all site procedures. - Ensure that individuals assigned to them comply with all aspects of HSE requirements as appropriate. - Seek advice from local HSE if process changes are likely to have a significant impact on safety or if there is a likelihood of it conflicting with Standards or codes of conduct. - Target safety improvements as part of the overall improvement process. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Health, Safety and Environment (‘HSE’) Carry out duties in accordance with Company Procedures, maintaining a high level of awareness and commitment in the Health, Safety and Environment aspects of work. In particular, carry out all operations in a safe manner, utilising appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as specified, and complying with all site procedures. Encourages a ‘right first time’ approach to quality management within the team. Involves QMM in all quality related activities resulting from a change program. Seeks advice from local QMM manager if process changes are likely to have a significant impact on product quality or if there is a likelihood of it conflicting with Standards or codes of conduct. Operations Meeting the individual improvement targets while responding to changing circumstances with production and ensuring that activities avoid excessive disruption. Ensure the Supervisor and Management Team are kept aware of any impact on machine availability. People Support and coach the assigned team. Recommend development initiatives and/or individual team member training plans. Feeding back to local Supervision any concerns that may occur regarding associate conduct or performance. Adopt a consultative and inclusive style, fully promote team engagement. Deal with confrontation in a professional manner. Help train others in role duties in your work area or skill set. SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND BEHAVIOURS - Desirable: NVQ level 4 or equivalent Lean Sigma Qualification - Proven manufacturing improvement experience gained in a blue chip organisation or other large organisation. - Proven Leadership experience in a manufacturing organisation that has deployed JIT or Lean principles. - Team player - Excellent interpersonal skills - Positive communicator. - Able to drive “change” and work flexibly to high standards. - Customer focused (internal and external) - Good organisation skills - Straight talking and can gain respected across the organisation. - Is resilient to knock backs and tenacious, maintaining focus.
