Linux – Delivery Lead/Implementation and Support Consultant An opportunity exists for a Linux support consultant / Delivery Lead within the Hitachi Consulting Cloud Solutions practice. The Unix team within Cloud Solutions practice provides a design and build capability, along with both reactive and proactive support services. Successful candidates will recognise the need for pragmatic application of their technical expertise and have the ability to problem solve in a complex and fast paced environment. The main areas of responsibility are: Managing the delivery of Unix / Linux projects into a portfolio of clients Managing design and build of new Unix implementations Overseeing the achievement of high quality Unix services Implementation and maintenance of security requirements and controls to protect Unix based customer solutions Management and mentoring of a growing team of Unix specialists, located across multiple locations Ability to scope and plan technical projects Striking a balance between operational and commercial client-facing skills Involvement in solution design, client management and assisting with the development of new propositions Engaging in the delivery of support services; Involvement in the development of new IT solutions, staff training and the maintenance of support documentation; Managing the team support load Diagnosing and resolving or escalating issues with customer solutions A pragmatic approach to problem-solving is required, good attention to detail, and experience of working to deadlines. The role is customer-focused and client-facing, hence good communication skills, both written and verbal, are very important. In addition to working on specific support incidents, the successful candidate would also be expected to work on small to medium sized development projects for our existing managed services customer base. As well as utilizing their current skills the successful candidate will have excellent opportunity to expand their knowledge into the other toolsets currently supported by the team. The core focus of this role is to manage the Unix support queue with a target of being able to resolve the majority of all incidents without escalation to other team members. Required Skills: · Successful track record, working as a Unix consultant or support professional. · At least 6 years’ experience with at least 3 of these being in an IT or Technical team management role within a Unix environment · Demonstrable experience of designing and implementing Unix based solutions · The following (from an implementation and support perspective): · 4 years experience of commercial Linux (Red Hat Enterprise, Oracle Linux, Unbreakable Linux) · Redhat certification RHCSA or above · 3 years experience of Solaris version 9/10 deployments · LDAP administration, puppet automation, and spacewalk administration · Experience working within and maintaining ISO27001 standards · Experience of defining, implementing and managing build automation, build standards, security, ‘hardening’ of client systems · A proven track record of working within a commercial support environment. · A demonstrable ability to construct a robust, scalable and secure Unix operating-system platform from hardware level up. · Expertise in: installation; patching; package administration; network configuration; security hardening; user/group administration; kernel tuning and configuration; backup and recovery; nix-based DNS; monitoring and alerting; high availability clustering and load-balancing · Specific knowledge of: shell scripting plus at least one other scripting language (Perl, PHP, etc.); Veritas Volume Manager; Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Cluster Server. · Working knowledge of Storage Area Networks and integration of these with Unix hosts. Any knowledge of running Unix systems in a virtualised environment beneficial. · Any experience of constructing and managing proactive monitoring, alerting and reporting packages, specifically based on best of breed Open Source products is highly desirable · Understanding of documentation standards and excellent presentation skills · The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a logical approach to problem solving. · Previous experience working in a support role highly desirable · A willingness to work unsociable hours as demanded by the role, including participation in a formal 247 on-call rota.
