ABOUT THE ORGANISATION British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) is the national governing body for Higher Education (HE) sport in the UK, a membership organisation and a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. BUCS represents over 160 institutions and provides sporting programmes for over 50 sports. JOB PURPOSE Develop and deliver the communications strategy to raise the profile of BUCS, in conjunction with Head of Marketing, Communications & Sponsorship Manage all Public Relations (PR) and communications requirements for BUCS - from written production through to editing, publication and distribution Develop creative campaigns for sport programmes and events - producing high level, engaging content and targeted media relations Manage the continuing development of BUCS communication properties and channels, in line with organisational objectives – including social media platforms, company website and e-newsletters Attend BUCS events and manage live reporting, event coverage and PR requirements Work across all BUCS departments, including sport and event programmes, sport development, international programmes and corporate services, to integrate organisational activity across communications platforms and maximise PR opportunities Develop and maintain working relationships with member universities and institutions, other National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of sport and media outlets, to increase opportunities for coverage and to raise the profile of BUCS MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Develop the communications strategy for BUCS, including targeted stakeholder segmentation across event communications, PR and media relations Oversee all media relations, developing a strong relationship with BUCS’s media agency, to enhance media coverage, annual AVE and relationships with regional and sport specific journalists Analyse and segment stakeholders, audiences and customers into distinct groups,based on behavioural and demographic data, so communications processes and platforms can be developed to effectively target each key group Recommend the most effective channel to target communications in order to increase engagement with the wide range of stakeholders, audiences and customers Oversee the print and digital production of BUCS publications and communications collateral – including annual reports, newsletters and communication tools Be the brand guardian for BUCS’s tone of voice and communications processes Oversee creative content production for digital platforms – including high level production of written copy for social media, website content, online news articles, videography and photography Oversee the content and tone of voice of social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and LinkedIn Ensure all content, functionality and structure of , and associated web domains are of a high standard for all users and in line with SEO requirements Project manage any digital developments as required by BUCS, developing strong relationships with third party web developers and account managers Work closely with Head of Marketing, Communications & Sponsorship to ensure the communications obligations for BUCS commercial partners is fully activated. Identify and execute further opportunities to monetise BUCS communication assets, and work with Head of Marketing, Communications & Sponsorship to improve the value of BUCS commercial packages. Provide customer/client/membership customer service across all BUCS communications channels Deliver regular reports both internally, to the BUCS CEO and Head of Marketing, Communications & Sponsorship and externally, in line with organisational and commercial partners’ objectives. Directly line manage the Marketing & Communications Coordinator, providing support to the BUCS office across all PR and communications activity Manage media volunteers at BUCS events Manage relationships with contractors and suppliers including photographers, videographers and media agencies Oversee the communications budget EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS PR/Communications/Marketing degree or equivalent At least 5 years relevant experience in-house or agency, in PR, communications or marketing Experience executing PR and communications strategies, across multiple stakeholders and audiences, channels and platforms Experience of complex CMS systems and websites Experience of complex online e-newsletter distribution platforms, including basic understanding of HTML code Experience of developing and managing web and other digital content including social media Experience in using online media monitoring and reporting software and tools Experience in using digital communications monitoring software and tools, including Google Analytics and social media analytics Experience of line management of staff and volunteer management Experience in producing events, media launches Experience in account management of sponsorship relationships and activations Experience of CRM systems Experience in managing crisis communications Detailed knowledge of and experience working in the Higher Education sport sector in the UK and abroad Experience working on large multi-sport events Working knowledge of multiple sports Ability to build excellent business relationships both internally, peer to peer and with clients Ability to work independently and as part of a team Excellent time management, planning and organisational skills Perfect written English and high level writing skills, including good grammar, punctuation and spelling Ability to produce excellent PR copy for a variety of different platforms, including web, newsletter, corporate publications and social media Clear understanding and ability to implement communication strategies Beginner to intermediate graphic design skills (Adobe InDesign / Photoshop / Illustrator) Working knowledge of digital communications including SEO, PPC, online advertising and Google Analytics KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Internal: CEO, Head of Marketing, Communications & Sponsorship, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Sponsorship Senior Account Executive, BUCS Intern, Sport delivery and events departments, Sport development department,International department, and Corporate Services and Finance Department. External: Media & PR agencies, media outlets, journalists, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, sponsors, commercial partners, web developers and NGBs.
