The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) is a college of the University of London and the only Higher Education institution in the UK specialising in the study of Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East. Based in the heart of Central London the School has some impressive facilities, including the Brunei Gallery, opened in 1995, which provides a 40-room conference venue. The estate also includes the SOAS Library which is recognised as a collection of national importance. This month Senate House North Block will open, creating a single unified campus for SOAS, University of London. The redevelopment of the North Block of the building has extended SOAS’ Central London campus, creating spaces that facilitate both formal and informal teaching and learning. The development includes a new Student Hub including accommodation and enterprise services. Following the successfully delivery of the iconic Senate House North Block redevelopment we are embarking on the next phase of our capital programme which will see significant investment and redevelopment in the heart of the SOAS campus including the refurbishment of the Grade listed Philips Building. We wish to appoint an Assistant Director of Estates (Capital Projects) to lead this exciting next phase of development. The successful candidate will have proven experience of leading the development and delivery of large scale, complex capital projects up to and in excess of £20m in value. We are particularly seeking individuals that he gained experience of leading projects in urban, physically congested live environments and therefore understands the challenges of delivering schemes with these characteristics. You will have excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to gain the confidence and trust of a diverse range of stakeholders. Experience of delivering projects on commercial, academic or civic buildings would be advantageous.
