New opportunity not to be missed. NFER is looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Data Manager to join the Data Management Unit based in Slough . Joining us on a full time permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £33,801 - £38,042 per annum depending upon qualifications and experience. NFER is an independent research organisation undertaking projects in all sectors of education and committed to the continuing improvement of education and training for all learners. We are looking for a talented Senior Data Manager with a good degree in a social science, numerical, technical or research methods subject who enjoys working with new technology, managing research projects and developing innovative solutions to complex problems. You need to enjoy being part of a team, liaising with a wide range of people, and working proactively to develop and implement new ways of working. You will be responsible for identifying and developing new ways of using technology to improve the work of the whole department. The Senior Data Manager will have two sets of core responsibilities: Project management Using your exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills, you will manage a variety of research and business change projects. These could include managing panel surveys designed to investigate teachers’ opinions on educational policy, development of new operational research methods, or taking a deep dive into our schools database – which contains data on every school in the country and all the research projects we’ve worked on with them – to pull out key trends to inform our research strategies. You will need to work on a variety of projects at once, leading small teams and be able to introduce innovative new ways to improve the work of the department. Data management Located in our Research and Product Operations Department, the Data Management Unit (DMU) is a team of operational data specialists with a passion for innovation and a keen eye for detail. We provide expertise and advice on data management, we develop online surveys, set up web-based marking and reporting platforms, and undertake database and panel management. We support many of NFER’s programmes of work and get involved in lots of varied projects. We’re also lucky enough to implement new technology and are involved from conception to launch. There isn’t such a thing as a ‘typical’ day in DMU, every day is unique. You may be scripting an online survey, manipulating data which has come from a variety of sources, programming a macro or liaising with clients or internal staff. DMU have the opportunity to be part of a wide range of projects in many different roles including data cleaning, sampling, report writing and project management. It is essential that as our Senior Data Manager you have: - A high level of numeracy and confidence with handling large datasets - Excellent organisational skills - A passion for operations, getting things done and providing solid foundations on which great research can be built - Great interpersonal and written communication skills - Experience of scripting with Microsoft VBA - Experience of data management in SPSS, STATA, R or similar - An ability to learn fast and quickly master different technologies If you have these and would describe yourself as a ‘details person’ then we’d love to hear from you.
