Development Manager Location : Oxford (OX4 2HU) Job Type : Permanent/fulltime Job Ref : ING241 We are seeking a Development Manager t o manage the onshore and offshore software development teams. With responsibility for producing quality software applications, designs, specifications and documentation as well as providing ongoing support following customer deployments. This role is specifically to manage the java development teams, but may also include .Net developers. Key Responsibilities Include: Management of development resources undertaking core application development and client specific customizations. Coordinate across multiple development streams ensuring best use of resources, avoiding clashes and overlapping activities. Management of offshore resources, communication and scheduling of tasks. Provide a high level of technical oversight, though not necessarily the technical authority – manage key technical leads. Manage the product development roadmap through transition from existing legacy applications into scalable, SOA based, modular applications. Apply agile management processes and methodologies to all activities including daily meetings, planning, retrospectives and other agile practices. Realistic and considered communication with customers and project managers, agreeing scope, timescales, deliverables and other commitments. Line management and personal development of a team of developers, ensuring efficient completion of tasks to required technical and quality standards and best practices. Work closely with development leads and business analysts to produce accurate delivery estimates and manage the transition from analysis through to design and delivery. Manage and collate progress updates from developers and teams to accurately measure progress and predict delivery timescales. Take responsibility for releases of production ready, quality application software and solutions. Manage development tasks within agreed budgets. Write, or manage the production of functional and technical specifications. Dividing larger tasks into manageable sequenced activities. Participate in reviews and meetings and provide updates on project progress Manage development operational reviews to improve processes, procedures and practices to increase efficiency and quality. Provide senior level technical support and assistance to team members. Direct and indirect training of team members to provide knowledge sharing, learn new techniques, tools and best practices. Day to day management of resources including regular performance reviews. The successful candidate: The successful candidate will have experience within a software house or consultancy in both internal and customer facing positions. You will have relevant experience managing development teams working in Java environments and extensive java application development experience. Managing within an Agile development environment you will also have recent experience in managing both onshore and offshore developers. Essential skills needed are: Analysis, design, architecture Java/J2EE including EJB servlets Semantic Web Skills: RDF/SPARQL/Jena – desirable Eclipse (or similar IDE) Spring Struts 2 JSP, JSTL Javascript CSS XML XSLT JUnit SQL SVN or other configuration management tool Object Oriented design Knowledge of Design Patterns Linux/Unix JBOSS/Tomcat (or similar) Relational Database (Postgres, Oracle) Content Management Systems (CMS) Agile Development Management Team Management Stakeholder management Estimating, planning, reporting If you are interested in this exciting opportunity please click the apply button below quoting job reference ING241 .
