Children’s Advocate Our client supports people who face disadvantage or discrimination to have a voice that counts. Providing advocacy and user involvement services across England, our client is a growing organisation working with people who are vulnerable or marginalised to raise their voices and have their rights respected. Position: Looked After Childrens Advocate Location: Bradford Contract type: Fixed term until 28 February 2017 Hours: 37.5 hours per week Salary: £21,500 per annum Closing date: 14th October 2016 About the role: The role will involve travelling across the Bradford district to meet with children and young people who are in the care system, giving them the opportunity to share their views in relation to their lives and then helping the young people to share these views with relevant professionals and agencies. You will be responsible for delivering an efficient and effective advocacy service, ensuring a consistently high standard in maintained and delivered in an empowering framework. The ability to develop reporting and record data is essential to ensure collective data can be shared with appropriate agencies thereby helping to ensure Bradford’s looked after children are appropriately safeguarded. About you: The successful candidate will be passionate about enabling children and young people to share their views and wishes. You will have demonstrable experience of working with children and young people to ensure their rights and their voices are heard, as well as an understanding of advocacy and national best practice standards. You must be able to work independently and within clear targets outlined in the Statutory Guidance. An ability to facilitate conversation, listen to and take seriously the views of a child / young person is paramount in this role. You will have a good knowledge of child protection, safeguarding children and young people policy / legislation as well as the ability to manage change and guide people through change. A full and clean driving licence is an essential requirement of the position. Ideally, candidates will hold a NVQ Children and young people Level 3 or above or a degree level qualification DipSw, Youth Community BA Hons, or equivalent. Demonstrable experience of advocacy and experience in a role that requires outstanding communication skills to achieve excellent results would also be extremely beneficial. Experience of, and a passion for, working in the Charity and Third Sector would be a real bonus, as would experience working within the Advocacy Code of Practice.
