Working closely with the Head of Business Intelligence and serving as a member of the BI management team, the BI Relationships & Innovation Manager's primary responsibility is to work closely with business partners, vendors and higher education bodies to bring new analytical capabilities to the organization. As part of the above there will be an emphasis on: Actively engaging with the business to understand issues and opportunities. Internally selling and delivering the art of the possible for data, analytics and visualisation. Delivering fast test and learn cycles to solve problems and explore new ways of working. Promoting the use of data to inform product development. Working with the BI Operations Manager to embed outcomes from test and learn cycles into operational delivery. Delivery management of time boxed agile developments. Create and foster relationships with vendors to maximise potential. Create & foster relationships with universities participating in joint ventures and building routes for on boarding talent. Job Context BI Operations is pivotal to the company’s operations as it is responsible for the day to day provision of data and reporting to all other business functions to inform decision making, manage operations and respond to external reporting and regulatory information requests. AIL is growing at a rapid pace and the business is evolving so the sophistication of insights and analysis and the efficiency and effectiveness of processes needs to keep pace with the change. The role will need to build relationships with all key stakeholders – customers and suppliers, both internal and external. There is a particular emphasis on ensuring that the controls in place for robust data provision and data quality continue to be appropriate, mitigating the risks in the processes. These should be supported by adequate documentation and testing. The job holder is expected to share their expertise fully across Business Intelligence and participate fully in the management of the department. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Managerial/Communication Skills A proven track record of managing and delivering technical/analytic projects. A proven track record of managing and motivating a team within a BI environment, or equivalent experience. Comfortable in ambiguous environments and leading the team through problem solving exercises. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers and the product management team, managing expectations on what can be delivered. Comfortable challenging peers in a healthy, constructive way. Must be an effective communicator with the ability to marry the company’s business needs with sound technical solutions. Proven track record in presenting complex concepts on both technical and functional requirements to groups, presenting persuasive recommendations, communicating difficult issues and contributing effectively at a senior management level. Ability to thrive under production pressure and deadlines. Strong communication (verbal and written), time management skills, fast learner, self-motivated, and comfortable taking initiative and handling multiple projects simultaneously. Strong planning, organisation, prioritisation and delegation skills. Technical Skills Proven experience with modern data platforms (Haddop/Horton/MapR/Cloudera) A high level of understanding of industry best practice in data manipulation, modeling and visualizing The role requires a high level of understanding of techniques for turning data into intelligence through manipulation and analysis. As such, the ability to adopt and use new software is very important. A high level of numeracy is essential. Knowledge of Business Intelligence solutions and implementations including data warehousing, data store, data quality and data management practices. Knowledge of application development, including business requirements gathering, development, testing, and implementation. Knowledge of data models and relationships between data elements. Proven experience in leading agile time boxed deliveries e.g. SCRUM Proven experience with business intelligence reporting tools such as SAS, QlikView, Cognos, Hyperion/Brio, Business Objects, MicroStrategy, Microsoft Analytic Services, etc. Strategy Evidences understanding of business strategy and key business drivers and has experience of delivering business intelligence solutions that enable fact-based decision making and ad hoc analysis In depth experience of collaborating with end users to identify needs and opportunities for improved data management and delivery. Proven track record of operating to BI Strategy to satisfy operational needs Education/Work Experience: Degree, or equivalent in analytics, informatics, computer science, programming or business.
