A brand new vacancy for an experienced Customer Insights, Human Factors & Ergonomics specialist The company is responsible for the development of some of the most innovative 'next generation' products across a broad range of sectors including Medical Devices, Personal Healthcare, FMCG, Industrial Machines, Consumer Electronics, White Goods and Brown Goods. Their multi-disciplined teams of World-class Engineers and Scientists are world renowned for their excellent approach to designing products, resulting in a queue of global companies knocking on their doors for assistance. To strengthen their capabilities they need an experienced Human Factors and Customer Insights specialist -ideally (but not essentially) with experience of working with medical technologies or personal healthcare products. You will design, execute and analyse usability studies through observational and ethnographic research, focus groups and quantitative/statistical analysis -then apply the conclusions to ensure the end result is simply the best, most inclusive and user friendly product possible. Job Title: Customer Insights, Human Factors & Ergonomics Specialist Location: Cambridgeshire. Salary: negotiable according to experience -circa £45-60k plus excellent benefits packages. NB: We also have two more vacancies for less experienced Human Factors & Consumer Insights Specialists to join at a lower level -eg around £35k for a recent PhD or BA 2 years' experience -call for details Tasks & Responsibilities: The Human Factors Specialist will undertake all the usability activities throughout the development process, from needs identification / interpretation and usability assessments in the early stages of innovation, through to usability handling studies, user insights and risk mitigation in the detail design phase. You will be part of the team that works at the front end of the product development process on assignments in the medical device, healthcare, FMCG & consumer technology product sectors. You will be the sort of individual who thrives on intellectual challenge and will relish the opportunity to grab and develop the next truly innovative product, delivering ground breaking ideas and 'disruptive' technology. You will also: Create reports, presentations and workshop material, presenting results to colleagues and clients Manage medium sized projects and teams of 2-3 people Undertake the usability lead on large product development programmes; Direction and implementation of user testing methodologies; Lead and participate in client interaction; Support usability marketing activities and support selling of large projects. With a wide range of tasks, responsibilities and product/project assignments you can guarantee boredom will never be an issue Experience and Academic Requirements: Excellent academics with a good degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Ethnographics, Industrial Design or maybe Psychology, Anthropology or related discipline. For the Senior role, around 4-5 years industrial or commercial experience and/or a PhD are desirable. For the less senior positions a recent PhD or degree plus 2 years' experience will be adequate. Understanding of customer focused research techniques, including insight translation, observational and ethnographic research, interviewing, focus group facilitation, usability and handling studies; understanding user interaction and ergonomics with respect to product design and development; A real interest in using technology and innovative thinking to solve real-world commercial issues; For the Senior role: Project management or Man-Management experience; Excellent interpersonal, team and communication skills. Experience in the following would be desirable but is not critical: Knowledge and of standards such as IEC62366 or equivalent Human Factors Engineering into the product development process. Usability with respect to user interface/GUI design and development; Cognitive psychology; Capability assessment and profiling Quantitative and statistical analysis techniques.
