In more than 140 countries we offer spare parts, technical information and training as well as diagnostic hardware, software and services, all used in the analysis, upkeep and repair of vehicles. We are currently looking for skilled Embedded Software Engineers to join our Telediagnostics team in Stockport. Successful candidates will be focused on the adaption of our embedded Telediagnostics platform to deliver Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) solutions to our customers. Embedded Software Engineer tasks and responsibilities: Design and develop software architectures for deployment on vehicles, identifying and elaborating system requirements on embedded Linux and AUTOSAR platforms Develop embedded software components that target several embedded devices and architectures, such as Bosch’s Car Communication Unit (CCU) or Central Gateway (CGW) Work in collaboration with engineering teams across various Bosch divisions and customer organisations, constructing dependable solutions that seamlessly integrate functionality from disparate software systems Meet with customers (internal and external) to develop a thorough understanding of their needs and desires, documenting them through Use Case requirement capture techniques Adhere to adopted Quality Assurance standards (e.g. ISO 9001, Automotive SPICE) and support Bosch’s own Software Quality Initiative (SQI) where we strive to become better at what we do Embedded Software Engineer skillset and qualifications: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent Strong technical and analytical skills combined with dependable process compliance Ability to prioritise and organise effectively, ensuring deadlines and key milestones are adhered to Deep understanding of embedded software development methods and principles Proven experience in analysing requirements and deriving software architectures/solution concepts Proven experience in system/sub-system component design, creating detailed specifications and thoroughly documented APIs Experience with OO methods, UML and design patterns In-depth programming experience in C and C++ targeting real-time embedded environments Proven ability to enhance and debug legacy code, taking ownership of complex technical systems Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g. Lua) Experience of using open source software and adherence to related software licensing models Experience of working with software configuration management systems (e.g. Git) Understanding of test driven development techniques Experience of writing unit tests and using unit test frameworks (e.g. GoogleMock, GoogleTest) Experience of automated build environments (e.g Jenkins), including deployment and testing of artefacts on target embedded devices Familiarity with embedded operating systems (e.g. Embedded Linux, AUTOSAR) Practical working knowledge of Linux operating system Excellent written and verbal communication skills Additional beneficial skills: Experience of working within international project teams Experience of software modelling tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect) Hardware device data sheet interpretation skills Experience of software reprogramming at ECU level Commercial programming experience in Java Understanding of ISO26262 and ASIL Experience of data driven vehicle diagnostics authoring tools Knowledge of automotive data exchange formats (e.g. OTX, ODX) Knowledge of legislated OEM On-board diagnostics (e.g. OBD, OBD2, EOBD) Knowledge of vehicle communications protocols (e.g. ISO14229, ISO14230, J1939, CAN, UART, KWP2000) Experience with automotive tools (e.g. CANDela, CANalyser) Experience with VCI Devices, Scan Tools, APIs for VCIs, integration of VCIs with software applications Travel is infrequent, but when necessary will include travel to international destinations as an essential part of the role.
