Our client is seeking a Design and Product Development Manager to join the team based in Farnborough. Reporting to the Director Of New Product Development and Supply Chain you will be working across all brands within the company manual appliances product portfolio and placing particular focus on the brand. You will undertake Product Development management responsibilities following the direction of the Director of Product Development and Supply Chain and deliver successful completion to pre-determined timing phases. Manage the design, development and implementation of specific new product projects in line with the company’s NPD process. Working both with internal resource and with third party design agencies to manage product development projects. Manage the 3rd party design agencies in the delivery of the projects, ensuring that projects are on time, on budget, technically compliant, in- line with original brief and on brand. Raise Critical Path Analysis (CPA) for each specific project. Maintain and communicate changes through regular communication channels and review forums. Responsible for undertaking the introduction of open and off shelf items to respective brands and markets. Managing the sourcing and supply through the China Office or through the UK logistics team as appropriate. Work in conjunction with Brand Product Management and Marketing functions to respond to specific briefs based on strategic and market requirements. Assume budget responsibility for assigned projects and in doing so establish a 'best value’ return on investment. Embrace and work to drive innovation throughout design work practices with both internal and external stakeholders; demonstrating both technical and creative flair. Utilising resources both within and outside of current business capabilities. Facilitate initial packaging concepts form the design arena and from the Packaging Technologists which will be in line with Brand Product Manager expectations and briefings. Protect and evolve the brand design language across all respective brands, ensuring consistency of design voice, colour, material specification and other design led cues in conjunction with Product Managers. Report back on the progress of all the projects at monthly New Product Development meetings. Take ownership for critical areas of accountability and responsibility. Adhere to predefined Critical Path for each project ensuring that key milestones are met and that costs are within budget. Work closely with engineering, quality, packaging and where necessary vendors to ensure outstanding product performance is reached and maintained on all projects in line with UK and International legislative requirements. Generate feed-back documents relating to sampling processes and evaluations. Assist in responses required to any ongoing quality issues including the implementation of any necessary ECN / design changes. BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Experience in design and development and project management with aptitude for problem solving and ability to drive change. Ideally from an in house manufacturing environment with exposure to supplier liaison and manufacturing systems; mostly gained in housewares or related consumer durables industries A solid understanding and experience of 'design for manufacture’, using plastics, wood, ceramics, steel and similar substrates. Ideally with a technical understanding of injection moulding & metal fabrication techniques. Full understanding of the latest CAD architecture. Working experience of Solidworks. Fully conversant with Microsoft Office software Some experience within packaging specifics and an ability to understand constructional packaging requirements would be advantages. Must have experience working with 3rd party design agencies and sources of manufacture on product development projects Some experience of working directly with Far East manufacturers. Understanding of cultural and working methodology. Excellent project and budget management skills. Good presentation and interpersonal skills. Experience of working in a culture geared towards team work combined with the ability to work in an environment where a hands-on approach to the business is a pre-requisite Must be able to undertake international travel if required to do so for business purposes.
