Taking responsibility for analytical projects that matter to the nation, you will be at the heart of innovative efforts to help people into work and protect the most vulnerable in society. Our work will simplify the welfare system, promote high levels of employment, support people to achieve a decent income in retirement, and provide opportunity, equality and choice for disabled people. Your role Whether you choose to join us in London, Leeds, Newcastle or Sheffield, you will enjoy scope to hone your analytical skills on projects that make a real difference. Working closely with policy makers and Ministers, you will provide research-based advice on issues at the leading edge of social policy. With a particular flair for carrying out qualitative research, you will play a critical role in gathering, analysing and interpreting information to inform evidence-based policies. Your varied remit will range from procuring, commissioning and managing research and evaluation projects, through to reviewing and synthesising the findings of existing national and international studies. Your background To be equal to the challenge, you will need experience of working in a policy-focused environment as a social researcher. We expect you to have either a 2:1 Honours degree in a relevant social science, or an appropriate postgraduate qualification in social research - either way, you will have completed a substantial amount of social research work. The ability to work flexibly, and to take responsibility for leading certain projects, will be key to your success. You will also bring to the role a commitment to quality, a collaborative approach and the confidence to make effective decisions. About us The work of the Department for Work and Pensions matters to millions of people. With an ambitious reform agenda, we are creating a new welfare system for the 21st century. We are transforming opportunities for people to find work and support themselves, while ensuring that the most vulnerable in society are protected. Robust analysis underpins everything we do.
