CATEGORY MANAGER - Purchasing Manchester Attractive package and benefits (c£35-£40k) Job Summary: Ash Consulting are working with a well-established international manufacturing company serving the oil, gas and military sectors. This procurement team role will be responsible for leading, developing and implementing strategic sourcing strategies for direct spend categories with the dual objectives of ensuring world-class vendor service levels and best-in-class pricing. Responsibilities will include: defining category strategies, conducting RFPs, contract management, building supplier relationships, procurement analytics and reporting, influencing stakeholders, VA/VE support, and other activities relevant to the identification, assessment, and execution of cost savings opportunities. Work Performed: Lead category evaluation and strategy development; specific categories of coverage will include: raw steel (bar, plate, tube), steel castings, and steel forgings Drive make vs buy analysis and recommendations for steel forgings Manage RFP process, including: structuring, data collection, cross-functional coordination and influence, analysis, negotiation support, recommendations, and presentations Serve as an agile procurement resource, capable of managing and supporting direct and indirect spend categories; active participant in procurement strategy and problem solving sessions Share best practices and cost benchmarks across teams and locations Establish standard tools, processes, and templates to accomplish the work, including: should cost models for major spend areas, central cost tracking for key commodities/industry benchmarks, RFP templates, training modules to educate others, metric monitoring/tracking, and other tools as appropriate Work with local procurement teams, IT, finance, and others to create detailed AP and PO data cubes for the purpose of monitoring execution and identifying opportunities Identify and pilot new approaches to managing spend categories Success will be measured based on: cost savings, cost avoidance, maintaining quality/OTD Qualifications & Requirements: Self-motivated, outgoing, friendly, and proactive Proven problem solving skills - able to identify & structure problems and/or opportunities for improvement, assesses viable solutions; develop and execute complex projects and comprehensive action plans Strong interpersonal skills; must be a team player capable of working effectively with non-team oriented individuals Record of analytical and detailed data analysis Skilled negotiator with fluency in contracts and pricing issues Superior written and oral communication skills to make sure there is effective (clear and concise) communication with employees and suppliers Flexible and adaptable, willing to accept change readily Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner and be able to handle cycles of intense work pressures Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments concurrently, with minimal supervision, including ability to assess and manage priorities Ability to handle multiple deadlines on a continual basis and take on additional job responsibilities Ability to maintain accurate records and files Should enjoy the challenges of working in unfamiliar areas Be willing to work additional hours daily and on weekends to meet schedule requirements, possess strong sense of urgency Occasional travel will be required Preferred Experience/Qualifications: Degree in engineering, finance, or business (Or purchasing qualifications) SAP oriented purchasing skills highly desirable Experience conducting and managing steel RFPs (raw, components, peripheral services) Job Type: Permanent This job was originally posted as
