JG59 – Technical Workshop Manager Location: Gloucester Salary: £38,000 per annum Overview: First Military Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Technical Workshop Manager for a major UK vehicle hire specialist. The role of the Technical Workshop Manager is to manage and maintain the efficient running of the workshop, body shop & fabrication shop and all in house and sublet repairs are completed in the most cost effective way to the Group in order to meet the required timescales and deadlines. This role would suit ex-military candidates and applications from former service personnel are encouraged. Duties and Responsibilities: · To control the flow of work through the facility ensuring all staff are kept productive and efficient at all times and the requirements of the business are met including achieving the relevant timescales for vehicles to go on hire or to be sold. · Develop and expand local sublet companies to provide additional capacity and resilience to your area of responsibility. · Ensure all reports from the Operations Manager, Group Service Manager, Regional Maintenance Manager and Customer Support Group are replied to in a timely manner before the deadline with accurate information. · Manage all maintenance bookings to ensure they are all completed within the timescales permitted. · Provide technical support and advice where necessary exploring innovative solutions to problem repairs. · Ensure all vehicle inspections and repairs are to VOSA standards and in line with manufacture / company procedures and ensure all vehicles are compliant when they go on hire or are sold. · Ensure we perform preventative and proactive maintenance in line with manufacturers and company policy ensuring equipment is compliant with all aspects of safety and legal legislation in a cost effective manner. · Ensure all parts fitted are required and repair spends are authorised as per the Company procedures. · Ensure all paperwork is completed correctly, legible and handed in on time. · Provide a safe working environment for staff. Robustly monitor safety behaviours and provide by your own example that safety is a high priority in this business. · Comply with Depot specific health and safety rules and regulations and ensure the correct PPE is worn/used throughout and report any failings through the reporting procedure. · Highlight any shortfalls or issues relating to safety or maintenance immediately to the Operations Manager using your own initiative to take corrective action in the first instance to prevent harm. · Maintain a clean and tidy working environment and ensure all tooling and specialist equipment is checked, tested and compliant in line with company policy. · Maintain sufficient security measures to prevent theft of company/personal property during and after normal working hours. · Ensure your area of responsibility remains fully manned in all technical work streams. Work with HR to monitor and address any recruitment shortfall. · To assist with training and development of the skilled staff and apprentice’s including checking and sign off their work where relevant. · In conjunction with the Group Service Manager and Operations Manager put forward your recommendations for an annual salary review for all technical staff and direct reports. · Conduct an annual appraisal for your direct reports and agree key objectives for the year. Skills and Qualifications: · Demonstrate good leadership and management skills at all times · Hold recognised time served training certification within the motor industry or similar engineering back ground and demonstrate minimum of 10 years working in the industry preferably with 5 years experience in a similar role. · Have good computer skills particularly in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel preferably but not essential knowledge of CDK (Kerridge). · Hold a valid UK driving license preferably with Cat C · Have a good understanding of transport & HSE legislation. · A good standard of both written and spoken English. · Ability to work well under pressure and meet the deadlines of a very demanding business where you need to be able to adapt to the ever changing demands of a busy hire business · Ability to work well as part of a team and also under your own initiative when required. · Be a well organised individual with excellent time management. · Demonstrate a desire for self-improvement and enthusiasm to learn new skills including attending training courses both in house and external Location: Gloucester Salary: £38,000 per annum This job was originally posted as
