Job Title: Paper and Materials Analyst Department: Design Location: Desborough Reports to: Structural Design Team Leader Purpose of Job: Responsible for the day-to-day running of the Desborough Laboratory and the creation/upkeep of written laboratory testing procedures. Carries out physical testing for new product development items on behalf of design/technical/estimating teams. Carries out physical testing for materials compliance. Evaluates existing material portfolio and presents opportunities for new material compositions back to the business. Implementation of paper performance testing/validation procedures across the Rigid Group. Dimensions: £110m turnover business. Managing testing and new material development requirements across 5 sites. Key Objectives: Functional Objectives: Develops written procedures and implements testing standards across the business for: Basis Weight Analysis. SCT, ECT, FCT, BCT. Moisture Content. Porosity. Carries out physical testing for new product development including: Basis weight analysis for tender related activity on behalf of the estimating team. BCT testing of new prototype designs for design/technical team. Carries out physical testing for materials compliance: Supplier validation of new raw materials prospects. Routine validation of raw materials from existing supplier base. Validation of ECT values for existing board compositions. Validation of BCT calculation model. Evaluates existing material portfolio: Analyses the performance of existing compositions and compares these against the needs of the customer base. Researches and develops opportunities for new materials/compositions which are aligned with our customers’ needs. Implementation of paper performance testing standards: Implements standardised testing and reporting procedures across the group. Ensures an aligned approach between manufacturing sites. Works through an agreed project timeline with the Commercial Director and Purchasing Manager, prioritises and organises various paper related projects for the business and sees them through to completion within the given deadlines. While this role involves day to day responsibilities, there is also a heavy emphasis on project work, the individual will need to be able to efficiently manage their own time, as well as coordinating project orientated teams from various aspects of the business in order to deliver results in line with the business needs. Pro-actively keep ahead of industry developments, working methods and available technologies relevant to your chosen field. Develops and delivers new working methods and continuous improvement initiatives. KPI’s Deliver test results and supporting technical documentation in a timely manner in line with project timelines. Ensure that all work completed is accurate, fit for purpose and in line with the customers documented and approved requirements. Person Specification Qualifications/ Knowledge/Experience Degree qualification in Paper Science, Material Science or similar. Applicants with experience in laboratory testing are particularly welcomed. Have the aptitude and ability to manage own workload and deliver in line with required deadlines. Display the required energy, commitment and perseverance to deliver positive change to the business. In depth knowledge and experience using the following systems: Microsoft Excel Microsoft Outlook Microsoft Word In-depth knowledge of board grade analysis, BCT, ECT and FCT and other necessary laboratory testing is preferred.
