You do not need formal qualifications if you have a good enough working knowledge of computer systems and software.

The ideal Trainee Computer Hardware Engineer will have good communication skills. They will also have good customer service skills. You’ll also need to be patient and have an organised approach.

Work activities

As a Trainee Computer Hardware Engineer you would be responsible for the testing, tearing-down and reconfiguration of multiple computer systems and equipment. These include, but are not limited to; desktop PC’s, laptops, tablets, servers, printers, point-of-sale systems and various peripheral parts such as hard drives and TFT/touchscreen monitors.

You would report directly in to the engineering supervisor.

Your day-to-day tasks would include:

·Testing of multiple computer systems and equipment

·Tearing-down of multiple computer systems to modular level (Motherboard, PSU, HDD, etc)

·Configuration work of multiple computer systems to explicit client specification

·Troubleshooting system failures

·Liaising with the Sales & Purchasing departments to assist in part identification

·Addition of multiple spare-parts onto the company’s computer systems and placement into the warehouse

Working hours

You would normally work 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday. You may be asked to do some overtime out-of-hours or at weekends (although these instances are rare).


Starting salaries are between £16,000 and £17,000 a year.

Entry requirements

You could start without formal qualifications if you have a good enough working knowledge of computer hardware. However, relevant certifications (e.g. CompTIA A+) will be an advantage

We would consider paying for the successful applicant to attain this accreditation if not already held.

Full training will be provided by our engineering supervisor.
