We're recruiting for a Research Scientist on behalf of a team based just outside Cambridge. We're looking for someone ideally with organic synthesis background and an understanding of quality systems and project management. Industry experience is also crucial. What You'll Be Doing: You'll implement and control experiments accurately and professionally using the most appropriate experimental techniques Provide assistance and support to colleagues and Project Managers whilst assigned to a particular project Plan and implement synthesis of libraries, adsorbents and ligands for customer or internal projects You'll make sure that all the required raw materials for assigned projects are available and ordered Plan and implement synthesis of scale-up candidates identified from library screening You'll present results, data and conclusions to Chemistry Manager, other members of the Chemistry Team, Project Managers and Senior Management Develop and optimize adsorbent and ligand synthetic routes. You'll help improve existing methods and protocols. Keep accurate and up to date records of experiments in lab books, reports and library synthesis data resources. Provide in-house training to staff and newly recruited individuals in company lab practices You'll plan work according to allocated project timelines. You'll have authority and control over the conduct of your experiments within each project. Support the Tech Transfer group, Production and Quality in the transfer of new products and continued support of existing products Set up and upkeep of Project Master Files Shipping of customer's samples. Support in project management including project proposals, monthly research reports, project plans and upkeep of project Gantts. You'll have some contact with customers and clients for project updates and technical support under the direction of the Team Leader and/or Project Managers Contact with H & S officer for discussions/recommendations on Health and Safety issues Contact with Facilities Supervisor regarding site support and providing assistance with equipment maintenance There may be some travel to company or client sites You may need to be flexible at times and work the hours necessary to ensure the timely completion of projects Undertake all aspects of library synthesis including preparation of reports on library and scale-up synthesis for internal/external use What We're Looking For: You'll have a Degree in appropriate sciences or equivalent Previous industrial experience You'll be able to carry out in-house training of staff Multi-tasking Management of assigned experiments on time and to budget. An understanding of quality procedures and protocols and working to ISO 9001. Management of library synthesis and preparation of reports of the work carried out. You'll have a detailed awareness of quality requirements relevant to your job, a general awareness of the potential effect of your actions on the quality of the final product (material or services) and always demonstrate a basic understanding of Quality Management Systems (QMS) on site. Good understanding of appropriate scientific skills and relevant methods Excellent practical ability Good understanding and competence of materials and equipment used in conducting the assigned tasks You'll have excellent interpersonal skills Data evaluation/report writing skills Computer Literacy This job was originally posted as
