Our client is a leading sustainable logistics company, serving the UK’s recycling industry. We are delighted to assist them in their search for a Transport Manager to run their busy transport operation at their Depot in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Reporting into the Operations Manager, you will be expected to manage the overall operation of Company vehicles and line management responsibility for the Huddersfield depot’s drivers and warehouse operatives, with responsibility for a fleet of 20 units and 15 Drivers. Ensuring the Transport & Logistics department at this depot is fully operational and running smoothly. As part of the sub-management team, working with my client’s other managers to achieve efficiency and consistency across all depots, and attending management meetings at various locations throughout the UK. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Accountable for the maintenance of the Company fleet of vehicles in order to ensure service is fully operational at all times and in accordance with service level agreements Able to make informed decisions about the type of vehicle required and the most cost effective option to implement the change Register and licence all vehicles and ensure all inspections are up to date Maintain records to prove that the Company is in compliance with all regulations Develop and supervise vehicle preventive maintenance schemes Review Periodic repair procedures to ensure completeness, accuracy and efficiency Recommend vehicles meant for replacement and arrange for necessary disposal or auction Investigate vehicle accidents, negotiate any possible settlements and authorise any repairs or maintenance of company vehicles Manage the vehicles and drivers in line with the Working Time Directive and EC561/2006 driver hour’s legislation Ensure terms of Operator’s Licence are complied with Providing excellent service levels to all partners, whilst improving costs and efficiencies Daily briefing & debriefing of drivers Assessing and rectifying defects Downloading and analysis of tacho records, including infringement and management reports Keep accurate and up to date records and documentation for drivers and vehicles Driver Licence checks Manage fuel cards account, provide weekly fuel usage reports to Finance Dept. Absence, annual leave, performance and general management of drivers and warehouse staff Authorise staff timesheets, overtime and expenses The Candidate: Previous Fleet and Transport Management experience is essential An excellent People Manager with a track record of achieving results CPC Qualified Ability to capably manage demanding situations and to cope with the changing developments within the business This job was originally posted as
