Our client a major international practice of architects, designers, engineers and urbanists who create outstanding places for people is looking to appoint an Associate Civil Engineer. You will lead their civil engineering team in Manchester, delivering high quality infrastructure designs (roads and drainage) associated with building projects. The role will include management and development of the civil engineers, graduates and apprentices and actively marketing and developing the business. The Associate Civil Engineer is responsible to the Civil and Structural Engineer Directors. The civil engineering team based in the Manchester provide support on projects to architects, engineers and designers in the Manchester, Sheffield and Birmingham offices. Projects include the provision of civil engineering designs associated with building developments and public realm projects, from the early master planning stage through to delivery of solutions on site, highway infrastructure projects and civil engineering master planning including flood risk. This role represents a key position within the management team of the civil and structural engineering group, with the successful candidate responsible for the development of the talent contained within the team and expanding our experience, as well as our size. You will also co-ordinate strategy and approach with civil engineering teams across the regions. Duties & responsibilities include: Designing projects from the concept stage through to the construction stage Management and development of team members Resourcing and financial monitoring and reporting Developing good relationships with professions across BDP Development of client relationships Assisting directors in seeking out and securing new opportunities Key skills and requirements: Educated to degree level with a minimum 2:1 in a relevant discipline Be a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Have proven experience in a similar environment working in a design consultancy as well as experience of working on site as a site engineer or resident engineer. Considerable relevant post graduate experience and good knowledge and experience of the following areas of civil engineering design:-Drainage schemes associated with buildings, highways, public realm and landscape projects, highway and pavement design, undertaking of designs for section 38, 278 and 104 agreements, ground modelling, Masterplanning, Assessment of flood risk Have a good knowledge of civil engineering construction principles and standards (imperative) Have strong practical knowledge of Civils 3D, PDS, AutoCAD and WINDES and be confident in your knowledge of relevant design standards and legislation Be highly motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision Organised and methodical with particular attention to detail Have the ability to prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines under pressure Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with an ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy Have a pragmatic approach and possess strong problem solving techniques Be a team player with flexible approach Possess strong interpersonal skills, able to build relationships at all levels with clients and employees alike and across all professional disciplines In return our client offers a basic salary of £35,000 – £50,000 per annum, depending on experience plus flexible pension allowance, private medical insurance, and contribution towards professional subscriptions.
