Research Scientist - NGS and Epigenetics Re: 19319 Our Client is a world leading biosciences company providing high quality, easy to use epigenetic tools. Due to growth, they require a Research Scientist. Working as part of a dynamic research team, you will bring technical skills and innovative thinking to our client’s growing epigenetic technology portfolio. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills at the interface of protein engineering and genomic/epigenetic biology. You will bring a strong understanding of the fundamentals of epigenetics, next-generation sequencing or protein engineering and work as part of a focused team to identify process improvements and develop and implement novel technological solutions that will enhance existing products and lead to the generation of new ones. Essential to this role are a strong work ethic and great attention to detail skills; the role also requires the ability learn and change direction quickly within a rapidly evolving environment as well as the passion and commitment to help drive novel concepts through to laboratory proof-of-concept and beyond. The candidate should be able to: • Demonstrate familiarity with technologies and protocols for epigenetic testing using next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based process flows • Demonstrate the ability to deconstruct and critically assess workflows and processes and to implement changes in a rapid and cost-effective fashion • Show a clear understanding of NGS technology and its application in diagnostic or research purposes, including first-hand experience of setting up, running or interrogating NGS data. • Demonstrate an understanding of the conceptual basis of protein engineering and expression and how it can be applied to, for example, enzymes or antibodies • Illustrate with examples how novel technological solutions have improved the efficiency, productivity or quality of laboratory workflows or processes • Work with customer-facing teams to troubleshoot protocols through customer feedback • Interface professionally with clients and collaborators to drive the needs of the business • Integrate seamlessly across the R&D organization and with scientific management in a pro-active manner • Communicate concepts in a clear and concise fashion to a diverse audience of both experts and non-experts as appropriate • Demonstrate experience with handling large sequencing data sets using standard commercial software packages • Work to tight deadlines, adapt to changes in focus and be willing to be an active participant in all aspects of the activities of the R&D team, including taking responsibility for key activities across the team Requirements & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular genetics or related field plus at least 18 months’ post-graduate work experience essential. • Experience of working in a commercial environment (biotech, pharma, CRO) would be advantageous • Experience of genetic/epigenetic factors involved in, or therapeutic approaches to, cancer or inflammatory diseases would be an advantage • Strong teamwork ethic coupled with the capacity to drive your own research • Rigorous attention to detail in both lab and office-based work • Experience of writing scientific reports and other forms of written communication • A clear, strong and open communication style is essential Role: Permanent.
