OVERVIEW Working in a multi discipline product design team to create sensors and analyzers to measure properties of water and gas. The work will include areas such as: sensor design, product design and evaluation. The ideal candidate will have a scientific background and experience in opto-mechanical design. The Role 1. Technical and scientific proficiency and leadership Demonstrates solid competence in technologies, tools and methods in own specialist area through solving complex industrial problems. Maintains recognized expertise in specific area by externally reviewing current technologies. Determines effective applications, equipment and methods to develop, market or manufacture new products or new software to respond to customer requirements cost effectively. 2. Technology direction Contributes to the development of strategic technology plans and project portfolio in own organization. 3. Innovation and creativity Performs a variety of complex technology/engineering assignments, which typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques. 4. Projects, processes and tools Demonstrates sound working knowledge of relevant processes and tools and is able to train junior team members when needed. Acts as a project leader or experienced project member. 5. R&D context Ensures has solid understanding of the drivers, as well as state-of-the art technologies, tools and methods in own competence area. Actively seeks and implements initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction. 6. Knowledge transfer Serves as a subject matter expert to the project, providing guidance to colleagues and more junior team members, acting as a mentor and sharing lessons learned. 7. Network and visibility Provides consulting services to business operations and customers within own area of expertise. Represents own group/team in Engineering forums, both internal and external. 8. Intellectual property (IP) and risk management Has overview of IP in own specialist area and develops project IP strategies. Identifies and manages risks in research and development (R&D) projects as well as in own organization. THE PERSON A BSc or higher in physics, chemistry, optical engineering or a related subject. At least 4 years of relevant experience Proven track record in opto-mechanical design Practical, hands on creative designer able to generate design concepts from scratch Expertise in optical principles, materials, and measurement techniques Laboratory experience of photonics testing & measurements Aptitude for problem-solving Self-motivated and able to demonstrate attention to detail Experience in sensor design Experience in end-to-end product development Package 45k basic salary 10% pension PMI 33 days holidays Flexible benefits Location:Gloucester, If you are interested in this role or want to speak to us about any further opportunities please apply now in the first instance.
