The John Peel Centre for Creative Arts is an emerging arts centre based in Stowmarket, Suffolk which opened in January 2013. It is an ambitious project with the overall aim to provide a lasting legacy to the life and career of John Peel through encouraging people to access and participate in a range of high quality cultural activities and events. The centre seeks to embrace the artistic legacy that John Peel leaves by finding and showcasing the best of the new, supporting high quality innovative work and embracing risk. It presents a diverse programme of events that include local, regional, national and international artists and companies, emerging artists and community groups. We are looking for a Manager to manage the premises day to day, administer the Centre, and to coordinate and encourage our volunteers. Excellent communication, leadership skills along with knowledge of music, arts and the needs of our local community are essential. Please note that this position will require evening and weekend work. It is also open to applicants who wish to job share. Main Responsibilities and Duties Day to day Centre Management - Building To oversee and co-ordinate the day to day operations of the John Peel Centre for the use of hirers, audiences, artists, community and voluntary groups To coordinate the cleaning of the premises to ensure that the centre is presented to the public and potential “bookers” at a high standard that is fit for purpose To make certain that the centre is made ready and set up accordingly for confirmed bookings and/or events and follows technical or specific briefs To manage the security of the building and its users including the opening and lock-up of the building, access control and emergency call-outs where required To monitor and oversee the operation of the Building Management Systems (i.e. lighting, temperature control, access, security and fire systems) and action immediate problems for maintenance/repair Administrative Duties To facilitate enquiries into the centre (email, telephone, in person) by responding and managing the process of accurately recording bookings and taking payments To coordinate and manage booked events ensuring that the centre is appropriately equipped and set up to event specification(s) including people resource and technical briefs Set up systems that capture visitor and customer feedback allowing for meaningful data to be analysed and trends recognised To maintain financial / budgetary control by working closely with the “head of finance – Board Member” to achieve a low cost, high profit environment To actively market and promote the centre through the JPC’s website, social media and other marketing strategies to maintain an up to date programme of events during the year Volunteers / People Management To lead and manage the centre’s volunteers to ensure that skills are fully utilised, potential is unlocked and individuals are coordinated appropriately Promote the “Volunteer Code of Conduct” stipulating expectations, training and development opportunities Consider imaginative and engaging Volunteer development sessions to support engagement, encourage and motivate Essential competencies Experience of delivering at Senior level People management experience Excellent organisational and communication skills Positive, 'Can-do' attitude, with the ability to be highly flexible Ability to multi-task, recognising pressing and important priorities Stage management / technical knowledge Financial Controls Sound knowledge of Health and Safety Driving Licence The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 31st October.
