We are seeking a senior engineer with five or more years experience in Java, JavaScript or PHP and an interest in leading a team of enthusiastic developers working on cutting edge web applications. In this position, you will be part of a small leadership team on one of our two core products sharing responsibility with another senior engineer for all aspects of architecture, development, testing and delivery. Working primarily with new code, you should expect to spend at least half your time writing software yourself. The other part of the work includes reviewing the code of other developers on the team and guiding them to improve their skills. You will also work closely with the product manager based in Edinburgh, and the product Owner based in London or New York to help define requirements with a view to ensuring that the product is technically achievable, enjoyable to use and architecturally robust. There will be regular opportunities to observe usability sessions and to meet end users, typically involving travel to the Opus2 offices in London but possibly further afield. Our existing codebase is primarily JavaScript, PHP and Java but are expecting to make extensive use of Ceylon in future. No prior knowledge of Ceylon is required, but a readiness to learn new languages is essential. We use flexible agile development practices with GitHub enterprise, continuous integration, automated testing (work in progress) and Jira.
