Contract Type
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Exeter Science Park Role: Full-time, permanent contract Location: Exeter, Devon Salary: £70k – £90k (incl. car allowance) bonus benefits relocation (negotiable on experience) The Company: The Exeter Science Park has been established to drive a knowledge-based economy in the South West. Exeter is home to a wide range of science businesses and technology start-ups, with the site already set to house one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers for the Met Office. Our aim is to grow science, technology, engineering, data, environmental and medicine enterprises across the region; encouraging knowledge sharing between scientists and business, as well as incubating new disruptive technologies. The Role: We’re seeking an innovative and pragmatic individual to help form a strategic vision to drive the Science Park forwards, and with the practical skills to make it a success. Working closely with the Board and relevant stakeholders, you’ll use your previous expertise to take the Park into its next exciting phase, building on our success of generating over £50m to establish the Park and securing its first clients. Your role will be to develop an exciting yet realistic business plan (including finance and funding); attracting the right businesses to the Park and supporting the development of new start-ups in order to build a strong science and technology community who are keen to share their knowledge and engage with the local public research base. As an ambassador for the project, you’ll take pride in promoting the project to relevant stakeholders and customers (from organisations to researchers) and generating new business through effective networking and marketing across the region, the UK and worldwide. In collaboration with your team, you’ll oversee the building of new units to the right specifications, managing the space to encourage interaction and solving any problems across the site. In addition, you will build and manage a strong team on site, recruiting for the right skills to support you and developing their expertise accordingly. The Person: As a person, you’re energetic and self-motivated, always happy to take a different view and drive innovation but with a strong self-awareness and sound judgment. With exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (in written and spoken English), you relate to people of all backgrounds with ease, utilising your strong selling, storytelling, negotiation and influencing skills, as needed, to command respect. As a commercial individual (an MBA would be beneficial) with a sound understanding of finance, you’ve worked with large and small businesses in the private and public sectors, and understand their diverse challenges and needs. With a strong background in a science or technology subject you’ll ideally hold a degree level qualification (or above) with significant experience of making a difference within related industries. You enjoy managing and developing people, but aren’t afraid to have the more difficult conversations. A practical understanding of current technology trends (such as big data and supercomputers) would be advantageous, but a genuine passion for science and technology is most important. Experience of building and managing commercial property would be beneficial, as would experience in marketing. Flexibility for UK, and potentially some international, travel will be required. T he Rewards: In return, we offer a competitive salary package (including bonus scheme and car allowance), and a generous pension and holiday scheme; we also offer a range of other benefits to support our team, including ongoing development opportunities. This is an exciting chance to be part of a progressive and cutting edge business in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference. A relocation package is available with this role. If you possess the experience, passion and attitude to make this role a success then we would love to hear from you.
